Scagel Replicas

Hi,

Jim Lucie, Charles Ochs, Jim "Treeman" Behring, Dennis Riley, Randall(Their M #27 is Scagel-like), Frank Gamble, Jim Batson, P.J. Tomes, Kelgin Knives, Durrel Carmon(sp?), Wayne Goddard, Jack Mosher, Mike Silvey, Bill Levengood.

Honestly, their are to many to count:). I personally am quite impresssed by Behring's work www.treemanknives.com , but any oof the above, & many more have done great work.

HTH:D:).

Mastersmith PJ Tomes is one of the better known Scagel emulators. You can see his a few of his Scagel style knives here: Pictures of PJ Tomes Knives

He uses forged 52100 for these blades, and blade shapes, and handle materials and styles are very similar to Scagel's. These knives are very reasonably priced for the quality you recieve.

I wish PJ had his own web site so it would not appear that I am recommending a particular vendor. The link above is intended for informational purposes only. Several internet vendors carry his work from time to time. PJ is a real treat to speak to about knives and knife making and I would suggest you speak with him directly. I can not put my hands on his contact info right now, but maybe some other helpful person can do so.

I'll add Bill Burke to the list.

I think the Area Code for PJ Tomes is 434.

I know I'll misspell her name, but there is a lady smith doing Scagel replicas--is it Lora Sue Boethke? That doesn't quite ring right. I can see her face, but can't exactly recall her name.

Bob Bowie,
Your spelling of D. Carmon's name is correct. He lives in the area here and I see his knives around now and again. Some are great bargains. I was in a local pawn shop and they had one of his stag and leather stack diff. heat treated Bowies in there and they had it ticketed for $85.00! VERY sadly, I didn't get back in time to scarf it up and it went out the door.:(
It was forged from a file (8 1/2" blade)and had a similar profile and construction to the large Bill Burke that PhilL has pictured. It pains me to think about that because I kick myself in the ass every time I think about it(hard too).

Coonskinner,
It's Lora Sue Bethke according to Knives 2003's directory.

All the best,
Mike U.
