Scagel

WOW! I was wondering if and when I would ever see this one.. Supposedly William Wales Scagel's own personal pocketknife...

And apparently David Shirley's, via Northwoods Knives, inspiration for this one put out last year under the legal Scagel name...

Interseting that after 105 years, the handiwork, design, and materials of the master outshines that of the copy.

Somewhere I read that the northwoods knives has the holes because that was on the knife used as a model. Not everything you read is true though.

Here is a picture I lifted from PJ Tomes's website. The one on top is a Scagel and the bottom one is by PJ.

(edit - misspelled Scagel, what a doofus)

Kind of a hijack, but I hadn't been exposed to Mr. Tomes' work until very recently. Magnificent stuff. He's a master bladesmith, too, from ABS. That is a danged impressive credential to me.

Hey Thomason, is that one of those machinist's chests you're displaying those gorgeous knives on?

My Dad has one of those, it's sweet!

The closest thing I've ever seen to the real Scagel was a folder made by Jim Batson. Someone bought it near the time of the Blade Show last year for $400. (a steal of a price)
