After seeing all of the fine micarda scales on everyone's knifes last weekend I decided that I wanted to make some for my bk6.

I rounded up some micarda where I work and started measuring. Is the hole pattern regular? I measure around 1.950 center.

This might be proprietary? If so ignore.

Any special tips Machining this stuff?

Thanks

Wear a mask. I didn't on my first micarta project and I paid the price with a shitty cough that lasted and lasted. I also got it in my eyes which sucked.

I don't really get your question...

As for tips, wear a respirator! I've been lazy sometimes and not worn mine and after inhaling the dust my nose starts to bleed badly. A good belt sander will speed things up significantly too.

Definitely a respirator. Use the knife itself as a pattern for drilling your holes, and do it one scale at a time. I usually trace the knife onto some scales and then rough it out, but don't sand it down to the tang until after I've drilled the holes in. The other thing to keep in mind when you are countersinking the holes is to pay attention to which side you're doing it on. It's really annoying to have 2 left sides, for instance. Mark the inside of each one BEFORE you start countersinking. The holes are relatively standard, although I can't remember off the top of my head which drill bit I used. Something larger than 5/32, anyways...
