scale material on BM 690 - micarta?

I just bought a BM 690 with the ivory and carbon fiber scales. (I'm referencing someone else's photo of the same model.)

I see references to "ivory micarta" but micarta I've seen has a subtle pattern to it, and this is perfectly smooth, like polymer/plastic. I'm trying to clean these scales, but I don't want to use anything that will discolor it. Is it really micarta?

Thanks!

Nice photo. I had one of those a long while ago, sold it for something else I couldn't live without.

How about mineral oil (available from pharmacies)? A custom knifemaker recommended it to me for ivory and sheep horn. Never had a problem with it.

FYI, Ivory Micarta is typically a paper based micarta, Renaissance wax or a plastic polish may be a better alternative.

Flitz or similar minimally abrasive polish works well.

WD-40 also works well to clean it.
