Hi Guys,
Before I ask my lame question, I have to say - WayNorth - you must have the nicest collection of folding knives around. I've watched a few of the auctions you've won recently and damn!!! Those are some cool knives.

OK, now my question. I won a beat up old Imperial Boy Scout knife, along with a 4-pin LB7, and a few other older folders that look like they were found with a metal detector. I am really looking forward to cleaning them up and getting some use out of them. The Imperial looks like it has a chip off the scale near the center pin. I've searched the old forum threads and am planning to use some Gorilla glue to fill-in the chip. Does anyone have a better suggestion? Also, any cleaning suggestions are welcome.

Here is a link to the knives in question:

Kevin,
Gorilla glue is great. I have used a lot of it in making knives, however there is a new product by LocTite called Sumo glue (available at Lowe's). It is a polyurethane glue and seems to hold at least as well as Gorilla Glue and has a lot less foaming.

The best way to reapir the chip would be to find a similar handle piece to splice a piece in, then use a glue of your choice, never tried the gorrila glue, but devcon epoxy works great. I think I have a handle that would match very close to it, is it delrin or jigged bone? I do those types of repairs if you are intested (just ask codger), but you seem more like the DIY type guy :)

There are two good knife repair books around, and they are not expensive. $12 to $15.
"the Complete Book of Pocketknife Repair" by Ben Kelley Jr.
and "Knife Repair and Restoration" by Adrian A. Harris.
I got both of mine from Knife World Magazine; just great, illustrated little books. Even if you only maintain a collection of knives, without working on them, the knowledge you gain reading these, makes you a better owner of knives!

Muskrat man,
Thanks for the suggestion. I'm not sure where I am going to find material to match the handle, but I will definitely give it a shot when it arrives. I've seen a few of your projects and they inspire the rest of us "do it yourself" type guys. If I do a half way decent job I'll try to post a picture. Thanks again,
Kevin
