I recall reading on the Hinderer website that the XM-18 Gen 4 requires a different type of scale than the Gen 3's. I assume this rules out the aftermarket options that are not labeled for specific generations as well?

I went back and checked, and the incompatibility disclosure was on the titanium scale, it wasn't listed on the G10 scales. The titanium scale also replaces the titanium liner, so perhaps that is why it is not compatible? It has something to do with the stop pin.

Anyhow, if you know for sure about the g10 and carbon fiber scales, please let me know!

All of our G10 and Carbon Fiber handle scales will fit all the generations with full liners (GEN 2-4, and GEN 1's that have been converted with a full liner). The all titanium scales eliminate the use of the liner, which on the GEN 4 is drilled for the stop pin. We will offer a GEN 4 drilled version of the all titanium scale at some point.

Well, the frag pattern carbon fiber scale definitely worked! But it is thicker than my FDE g10 scale, not what I was hoping to accomplish. Not sure what direction to take from here.

I calipered both scales and the factory g10 measured .1195" and the frag pattern CF scale measured .1285". So only .009" difference between the two. Crazy that I can see less than a hundredth, but I doubt it would feel different.
