anyone ever remove the scales from a gb or warrior? i removed the hex screws but the scales seem glued on.

easy way to get them off without ruining?

I've tried the same thing, when they didn't come off with the screws I gave up. I assume they attach them with something heavy duty like the tape they use for the inlays. I wouldn't mess with it unless you want to risk ruining the scales in which case crk will replace them for you.

yeah they wouldn't budge. i tried tapping them off but that didn't wk either. i didn't know they used some sort of tape on the inlays.

i wanted to try a cord wrap on the gb, but don't want to mangle the micarta, hard as that may be to do. or scratch up the finish on the knife.

oh well....

Yes, the slabs are attached to the handle with tape, probably the same 3M double sided adhesive material used for the inlays in Mnandis and Sebenzas. The tape is there as much to keep the handle slabs from sliding/warping as to keep moisture from getting under the slabs and causing corrosion.

I don't know if they use the same thing on the Green Beret knives, but the tape they use for the inlays is 3M's VHB (Very High Bond) and is considered a permanent adhesive, so I wouldn't try to pry the the scales off unless you're willing to break them. Maybe trolling through 3M's website has some advice on how to remove them. Personally, I wish the scales were flush with the edges of the tang. I think they'd be more comfortable.

Any idea where to get replacement scales? I've used mine so much I've chipped and scratched them. I already hot replacement hex screws. I just need to find scales or I'll make my own. If I decide to make my own I'll use marbled carbon fiber. Look good with the black.
