I had a fellow bring me a fixed blade, skinner, that he wanted me to sharpen and then check out how it would not hold and edge. It is S30V steel. I sharpened it and then used it a little and he was correct, it won't hold an edge very well, seems to be pretty soft. I tried something that I saw some one post here on the forums to get the scales off. I put the knife in a pot of water, brought it to a boil for 20 minutes and the epoxy came loose. It looked like JB Weld. I have some blades that I am working on and when I get them finished, I will send this blade along with them to Paul Bos to be re-heat treated/tempered.

Betcha whoever made it buffed the hell out of the blade trying to get a mirror finish and screwed up the temper. I've seen me do it before on a blade! Seeing as how you won't get that mirror finish on S30V, I'll bet thats what happened. Paul will get it right for you, but I am wondering if the edge is too thin to heat treat now???

I didn't leave a finished edge on the blade. I used a diamond stone to blunt the edge. Not sure how much of the edge to remove though, Paul didn't say.
