Scallot Pivot

I've got a damascus Scallot from Kershaw and the pivot screw is VERY tight. I assume this is from factory, but I did buy it NIB off of ebay so I do not know.

Anyway, the other side of the pivot turns if I try and unscrew the pivot screw off. I've used every ounce of man power I have to push my finger against the flat side to try and keep it still, but never could...fail

Any ideas how I can fix this? Perhaps describe the problem better? It's bugging me because the blade is off center and I'd rather fix the problem myself. I was thinking about emailing the ebay user I got it from, but I'll ask here first.

Thanks!

Hmm, it worked after a few tries at it, but the blade is still off center...I'll think about my next move.

Unless it's REALLY off-center, you might want to be very cautious about trying to force it back on your own. Kershaw has a pretty good rep from what I hear, on warranty issues. If you go too far in trying to 'fix' it, and end up doing more damage (like stripping screws trying to loosen them), you might lose the warranty coverage on it. Need to decide if it's really bad enough to mess with anyway.

Here are three techniques for centering a blade, from best to worst (for me):

1. With the knife CLOSED, try to "bend" it by applying pressure to the scales. You'll see the blade move in one direction or the other, depending on what side you're pushing. When you figure out the right side to push, hang the knife over the edge of a table (on a folded towel) (CLOSED) and really lean on it. This method is the best I've used, and came from Ray Laconico. [Ray didn't suggest using a table edge, but his hands are a LOT stronger than mine, I'm guessing.]

2. Take the knife completely apart, reverse everything you can (switch the washers, turn the spacers around, etc.), then put it back together.

3. Loosen all the screws, wedge the blade with a piece of cardboard to the side OPPOSITE the faulty one, then tighten everything up.

Good luck!

I have recentered blades by loosening the pivot screw, then the handle screws, center the blade, then retighten the handle screws and finally adjust the pivot screw. Hold the blade centered until everything is tightened. If the blade is being pushed by a liner lock, I'll go past center, then tighten all the screws, and the blade will center when done.
