Not sure in this is the best or correct plac for this info, so moderators please advise.

I do not post my registered email on BladeForums. I have posted an alternate email using things “at” or “two” instead of the actual symbol or value, but this was years ago and I have not recently posted my alternate email.

Apparently, the scammers have caught on this. Last night I posted and “I will take it” and quickly follows up with a PM. The transaction executed through PM seems to be fine at the moment. HOWEVER, I also received a email in my non-registered email or my alternate email that does exists in posts somewhere. The email name was the exact “screen name” of the member selling the item(s).

In this email, written in common English and semi-slang construction (no red flags), the scammer provided an email address, and F/F instructions for transaction. This is where I saw a red flag.

The sale thread mention f/f. I do not use f/f payment unless I know the person or have validated the member through other known members. So I was using and agree to g/s in the PM with the authentic member.

Please be careful out there! This was not an inexpensive purchase.

Also, if there is anyway to report the actual scammer email directly to a moderator, maybe via PM, I can provide the originating email and the PayPal email they were trying to use. Likely not very helpful since these email addresses can be changed by scammers quickly.

Not all criminals are troglodytes. They have become more sophisticated over time and have evolved in order to keep their nefarious pursuits profitable.

Folks need to use DMs and their common sense. If they won't protect themselves, we can't protect them from themselves...let alone the miscreants.
