Hey guys I took a break for a few months so maybe this has been happening and is known to yall but I will post it just incase because its the first time I have seen it.
I have sold things on Blade Forums for many years and never had ANY kind of issues until today. I sold a knife this week here and after I had shipped and sent tracking number the buyer gets this message ( I replaced their email name with XXXX)

"Hello brother,
Consider it yours. PayPal info is;
XXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Send via F&F no notes. Also, shipping information.
Will get the shipping confirmation to you when I have it.
Thanks."

I am proud to say I have never asked for F&F payment and never will. I think on future sales I will be sure to mention that.

Just giving yall a heads up. Hope your holidays go smoothly.

It is against the rules of PayPal and Bladeforums policy to ask for or send F&F for anything you are buying.

People will have all sorts of reasons why they do it, but it is stealing from Paypal ... plain and simple.

A business could lose its PayPal account if caught asking for or accepting F&F.

It also gives you no recourse to get your money back if there is a problem. Scammers use it to make a sale and then never deliver the item.

Bladeforums policy. It is in the rules at the top of the Exchange Page.
  • The rules for The Exchange can be found here. Please read and follow them. Stop using Paypal Friends & Family and follow our best practices to prevent getting ripped off or having a bad deal.

PayPal Policy:
Purchases for Goods and Services

As of July 28, 2022, US Business accounts can no longer receive friends and family payments from US senders. This change was made for the following reasons:

  • To ensure that all eligible purchases are protected for both buyers and sellers by PayPal’s Purchase Protection, guarding against fraud and other things that can go wrong with purchases.
  • To help businesses properly track commercial income for reporting and tax compliance purposes.
  • To decrease buyer confusion between goods and services, and friends and family payment types.
Choose “Paying for an item or service” when buying goods or services. You can use this type of payment when you pay for an item you won in an auction, buy merchandise online, download a digital item, or something similar.

We cover eligible goods and services payments under PayPal Purchase Protection.

I have purchased a few things on The Exchange that asked for F&F in their post or payment email. I replied that it was not allowed by either BF or PayPal, nor would I open myself to having no recourse if the item never arrived. One was OK with me paying Goods and Services, one got mad at me and canceled the order, and one said, "Fine, if you want to use Goods and Services the price is now 5% more."

The rules say it is discouraged to use ff not that it is against the rules…

You get no protection using g&s either as PayPal doesn’t cover knives just like guns.

Just do your legwork and verify who you’re buying from. That is the best thing. I’ve used f&f for over 20 years now and nary a problem.

Yes, the rules say, "Highly Discouraged", but in the heading of the page Sparks says, "Stop Using F&F". Since Spark said to stop doing it, the mods consider that a rule. Of course, no one is going to jail over it. You just have no protection from being scammed. My main issue with doing it is that it is unethical.

You should ask your customer to use the BF search for his email address and edit/delete them out. The scammers are emailing people who post their emails publicly with that exact message. This has been going on for a few months now, GBU Is full of threads about it. It seems like a great idea to include a message in sales posts for prospective buyers to beware of posting their emails. Here's mine:

I WILL NOT SEND YOU AN EMAIL ABOUT THIS LISTING. IF YOU RECEIVE AN EMAIL ABOUT THIS LISTING IT’S SCAMMERS. PLEASE DON’T POST YOUR EMAIL IN THIS LISTING.

I have used Paypal for many years. Never had a single problem.
I have had people that I know are legitimate ask for F&F. I won't do it, but I will do regular Paypal plus 3% to cover their expenses. Most agree to that.

PayPal freezing and deplatforming accounts, promoting censorship and loss of free speech during the Trucker Protest Isn't too ethical either.....

Many people find better ways of sending money.

Different subject from three years ago and unrelated to this post about current scammers attempting to cheat your customers.

If you are referring to the Moneymaker vs Paypal suit ... IIRC, the suit against PayPal failed.

Anyway, that discussion is for the political sub forum (in Current Events). https://www.bladeforums.com/forums/bladeforums-com-political-arena.685/

When a customer asks for paypal I tell them add 6% (international commission is near that) if customer is from the US I tell them I can receive using zelle of course.
Lately I been using Wise to receive international payments, commissions are way lower, just FYI

How did they receive that message? On here, or by email? Got to be so careful these days.

It was me that received the message via email. I need to search for my email and delete it. I looked through my profile and about me but I couldn't find where they got my email from. I'll search better though. The PayPal email they provided and the sender of the email didn't match.

We should get Scammer Payback on the case....
