Scandi Grind

Have a newbe question about a Spyderco Bushcrafter I purchased used. It either came from the factory with a secondary bevel, or the previous owner put one on. I have never owned a knife with this grind before, but trying to sharpen it by hand, there are only marks 1/3 of the way up the bevel. If I want it to be a true scandi grind, do I need to take it to a coarse diamond and file away all the metal till it is from the edge to the top of the bevel?
