scandi ground folder?

many people love their scandinavian ground moras, and have plenty of them to prove it.

some people even go so far as to buy custom scandis, such as the skookum bush tool or the ray mears bushcract.

these are all fixed blades. would there be any functional or other good reason to make a folder with a scandi grind? i have seen folders in the market today with every conceivable grind, even those incorporating two different grinds, such as a convex and hollow grind, to maximize performance.

but i have yet to see a scandi ground folder. it seems to me that perhaps, based on the traditional moras, a scandi ground folder would most likely fall into a class similar to the french opinel, a cheap simple knife that performs like a far more costly blade, and in some cases better.

i imagine a birch wood handle, perhaps a friction folder with a tang that can be used to hold the blade open. perhaps as a simple slipjoint, along the lines of the classic sodbuster. maybe it would even follow the basic sturdy construction of the opinel, using a similar simple and effective locking method.

it would be interesting to see such a folder, as it would make the scandi grind much more portable and easier to fit in your pocket to take with you for everyday tasks, or more convenient to transport that small mora whittling knife with you into the bush.

just a thought...what do you think?

+1 TLConfederate --I own three EKAs now and have handled many others I've bought to give as gifts and the fit and finish are great. I've only converted one to Scandi grind (they ship with a micro-secondary bevel) but it's no harder to get a good Scandi edge on the folders than it is with a Scandi fixed blade.

Here's an old thread on this topic from the Wilderness/Survival forum here on BF. This other thread is from the BritishBlades forum.
