Anyone here regrind a saber to scandi?

I'm thinking about doing this to my delica 4 because its my backpack knife and I love how a scandi grind bites into wood and ease of sharpening in the field with a small stone.

I'm actually considering ZDP model just to do this but if vg10 is GTG ill stick with what I have already

ZDP would be great for holding an edge in the field but the VG-10 you already have would be my choice for ease of maintenance.
I have an Endura saber ground I've been thinking about doing the same so I'll be looking forward to your results.

Be careful grinding like that. The edge angle will be thinner than you expect ~6 dps (degrees per side) vs the usual 10-12 dps for scandi grinds. If you gothat low, you may want a 12 dps microbevel.

Forgot I started this thread.. I'm trying to figure out how to go about it me2

Do I leave the shoulder of the saber grind where it is changing the grind angle or just work it down with the existing angle?

I really don't want a micro bevel. One of the things I love about scandi is its super easy for me to just lay the grind flat on a stone to sharpen because I cannot free hand for crap.

Barman1 ill post some pics when I finally get around to doing it.. 10 week old is keeping me busy these days

You could widen the existing edge bevel a little at a time, slowly walking it up the blade until it reaches the current grind line. You'll increase the edge angle a degree or 2, but nothing major. Or you could just lay the flat on the stone and scrub away. This will widen the saber grind bevel but keep the angle the same.

I'm certain I can show you how to sharpen a knife like a Delica and within an hour you'd be able to get a good freehand edge. It might look like a newly beaten red headed step child, but it would be sharp, no doubt. Don't limit yourself to scandi grinds because of sharpening phobia. A 10 degree edge on a 4 degree primary bevel will out cut a 10 degree edge on 3/32" flat stock every time. You'll miss all that if you stall at scandi edges for sharpening reasons.
