Hi all,

Of late, I am really liking the looks of traditional Scandi knives, especially the little (2.5 "-3.5" blades) and those with Antler/Bone handle. I'm wondering who might make some of the better Scandi knives (and where one can buy such a knife). I'd love to see pixs of your Scandi knives if ya got one (or more). Thanks.

If You mean Sami knives in reindeer antler, just google Sami knives and You will find them.

The Fankki family are among the best makers, but there are several others belonging in this group like Olav Svonni.

Here are pics from a store in Sweden.

And here's my own knife.
Alot simpler but inherited and made for my grandmother around 1950.
The sheath isn't original, but comes from the same region in Lapponia and made to fit the knife by me.

Hello Mikael,

Thank you for responding to my thread. Wow! Those are some beautiful knives! It nice that you have your Grandmothers (circa 1950) knife. I like it! I don't know much about Scandi knives but, I know what I like when I see it. Recently, I did a swap with a young man I know. He wanted my (Thrift Shop find) Fossile Blue Men's Watch, I wanted the lil' old knife he brought for me to inspect. I kind of had a feeling it was a Scandi type knife, perhaps an old MORA. The old knife had a little bit of a rusty blade. Nevertheless, there was just....."something" about this lil' (just a tad over three inches) fixed blade knife that spoke to me. So, long story short, we did a swap and both walked away happy. Later that night, I spent hours cleaning up the knife. The handle (which I though at the time was some kind of unusual wood) I now believe to be Bone or perhaps Antler. After cleaning, the only ID marking reads "BR & Co." I can find little info on the "BR & Co." knife. At any rate, since acquiring this lil' knife, I am interested in what other Scandi knives might be worth looking in to. Thanks again Mikael for the information you provided. I'm going to check it out for sure!

I googled BR & Co. kniv and found a couple of interesting links, one to Bladeforums!

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/565312-Newbie-Knife-Manufacturer-Question-M-J-DAHL-Toten

It appears that the BR & Co. stamp, has been used by the manufacturer Brusletto of Norway.
It could be that Your knife is fairly old, but I'm no expert on Brusletto.
Brusletto blanks has been used by custom makers since long and Your knife could be an unmarked custom, with a Brusletto factory blank.

Wellknown makers like Harry Morseth also used Brusletto blades and those are much sought after by collectors.

Here's a site listing completed auctions on Nordic knives from Norway, Finland and Sweden.

http://www.cultur.nu/knivar/tollemapp2008.htm

Maybe You will find a similar knife to Yours in there!
It would be nice to see a pic of Yours here too.

Hi Mikael,

Thank you once again for your interest and help regarding my thread. Mikael, the second link you provided (completed auctions) has a picture that is almost exactly the same as my little knife! I can't believe it! Due to computer problems, I am unable at this time to post pictures. The picture (I believe it's the forth picture) showing two knives :Gelio 22 cm 805 kr 2008, the smaller of the two looks EXACTLY like my knife (save the fancy engraving). It appears to be the same blade length, same handle shape, same spacer placement and also has that little Brass "nib" sticking out the back of the handle.
I wonder how old this knife could be ? Oooh, I found this picture which also looks very much like my knife :

Thanks again Mikael for all you help. You made my day!
