Can anyone tell me anything about the Scandie grind. I think it looks odd, but I Know nothing about it. I see alot of this grind on bush knives. Why do you prefer this grind ?

The Scandi grind is a great bushcraft knife grind. It really cuts into wood really good.

Basically a flat grind from the ridge line of the bevel to the edge; commonly with a very, very slight secondary bevel. Cuts like a razor and holds a great edge. See the Scandi forums on British Blades or Knife Forums.

Here's a good article on sharpening a Scandi grind.

'Scandi', is the contraction of choice. Which is short for Scandinavian Though popular, it is incorrect. Nordic is a better descriptor, since Finland's knife tradition is a big part of the type, and Finland is not a Scandinavian country. But, all of the countries which contribute to the style, are Nordic.

The grind has been around a very long time.

It has recently been popularized by the bushcraft movement, because the seer of that movement, Ray Mears, designed a knife, the Woodlore, which featured the style of grind.

The Woodlore is essentially a Lovess style knife, with a narrower tip, and a Nordic grind.

Then, as often happens, it got spread around from there...

One of the effects of increased interest, has been an increased interest in the roots of the style of grind, so you see more people getting into the knives of Sweden, Mora Knives, for instance.

I like them, because I like Knives.

Kind Regards,
Marion
