First off, I'm not a knife guy at all so please forgive me if anything sounds ridiculous.

I am at the tail end of a 2 week vacation in Scandinavia and my friend and his wife took my dog in while I was away, saving me both worrying about my spoiled Mountain Curr and the huge cost it would have been to board her.

He is the knife guy. Recently his folding knife he had on his person every waking moment broke and I wanted to get him a thank you with a "true Scandinavian" replacement. Any reccomendations on a knife that would represent the area?

Did some research and hunting knives seem to be the thing here, but he would get a lot more use out of a folding he carries with him.

Thanks!

What a wonderful idea!!!

As great as it is, I find gifting an EDC folding knife is very hard. Sort of like picking out shoes for somebody.

THE scandavian knives are the fixed blade knives like the puukos. I don't of any knife knut who wouldn't want a traditional Puuko brought back.

Some ideas here.

What was the folder that you friend had so that people can recommend something of similar size?

The EnZo Birk 75 in flat grind S30V is a great little folder made in Finland. The blade is 3 inches long and you have various handle choices.

No clue at all what the folder was, but believe it was a 3 inch blade. Thanks for all the recommendations so far, will look into Enzo, Helle, and Puuko.

I ended up taking Pinnah's advice and not trying to pick out a shoe for somebody. Went with a Helle Harding, such a nice looking knife. After tax refund, 88 USD in Oslo.

What a score. Helle's are first-class and genuine. The knife guy should love it. Congrats.

Oh my word!!!

A traditional knife, purchased in Oslo and hand delivered by a grateful friend!!!

*THAT* will be a keepsake!!

Please let us know how he reacts!!!

Pinnah covers it 100%. If that guy isn't genuinely happy and clapping you on the shoulder in thanks, then he's not a real knife guy. What a great knife you purchased. Well done, friend.

Well done Isomil. A great traditional knife for a knife lover. Your friend is sure to appreciate the knife and the gesture.
