I am more of a folding knife guy then fixed blade and I am looking for the best bang for the buck I can find. I am also somewhat frugal(cheap) but I do know that to buy a very nice knife will cost more than a tank of gas. Upper limit that I will spend will be $100 and I will be much happier if I spend half that. I am also a guy that likes to have something that no one else on the block has, my laptop runs PCLinuxOS for example instead of windows or MAC OS. I am looking at knives from the Scandinavian part of the world and since I like folders the choices that can be found are few. Fallkniven is regarded the best and priciest but I have also seen offerings from EKA and Marttiini. Does anyone have experience with the last two brands?

EKA is a good name I had a couple of their cheap folder cost under 7 bucks plastic handles slip joint single blade is was a perfect work blade. for a price of a frost knife the EKA folder was light years ahead in edge keeping and is damaged did not cost a days pay to replace. 12c27 was the steel, and was a great knife. Last one was stolen from a job I was at. Well at least I hope it is still being used.

Had an EKA Nordic Swede 440C blade, rubber handles over steel liners, lockback was good and tight. $30 bucks, good knife. Gave it to a friend and still uses it for hunting.

I'd go with the Fällkniven, if I really had to go with a folder - superior steel. The Marttiini folders aren't very good at all, even for folders (I'm sad to say), and would clearly be the worst of those three you named. Marttiini's fixed blades are much better quality than their folders.

I have a little EKA folder, they do an excellent job with the 12C27 steel. Their designs are rather unusual as well ... wood handles, scandi grind blades, even the working "innards" are innovative and non-traditional.

May I also recommend you try Debian? :)

Thanks for the heads up on the Marttiini folders. I had high hopes for them as their sheath knives are really a good quality for not a lot of money. I have only handled on example of an EKA folder as of yet, it is for sell at a local gunshop and I will need to go back to see if it is something that I would like to have on me for an edc.

Tried debian, my dell laptop seems to like the madrake based PCLinuxOS the best of all that I have tried.
