Scared to take it apart

I have two Utilitac 2 tantos on their way to me.

I want to disassemble one and pimp it out. New scales, maybe some file work, etc. But I've never taken apart a folder. Are there instructions anywhere for taking them apart and putting them back together?

Hmmm.

Taking apart a folding knife is extremely simple. It can be more complex if it involved springs or open bearings, but really it's one of those things where if you are just slighty enclined to taking things apart and fixing them, taking a knife apart is fun.

If you call an electrician because you have a light that's not working, and you won't even touch the bulb, or go near the panel out of fear, or if the thought of changing the air filter in your car makes you hide in the closet, maybe you shouldn't take a knife apart...

There are many video's on YT on how to do it........

Glad you took that the right way.
It's really easy to do, just make sure you work at a clear table where you can lay all the parts out and just put everything back together the same way it came apart!
If you're stuck with something, there are tons of members here who would be more then happy to help, just post up the issue....
Make sure you use good quality Torx drivers, and to take extra care to not strip any screws....the smaller they are, the easier it is to mess them up......I fear T6!!

I was worried about springs and things like that.
Watched a few videos last night. Not at all hesitant any more.

Very easy. Just take your time and a few pictures along the way so you can reference them if you need to.

definitely heed the advice on not stripping screws. Torx drivers are called as such because they apply much more torque vs a flat head and phillips. You think you arent using much force and then all of a sudden the screw is done. As for a good torx driver I prefer Wiha. And work over a hard non carpeted surface. That way screws are easier to spot and hear if they drop. Magnetic bowls are a good investment for anyone doing mod work.

Get one of those multi compartmented pill containers (the ones that have a compartment for each day of the week). Use this to keep small parts together. I put all the screws holding the scales in one container, pivot in another, washers in another, etc. Label with some blue painter's tape. This makes reassembly much easier.

Take pictures as you disassemble your knife, just incase you need a reference.

I often will put down a wash cloth or rubberized shelf liner on my work surface. This helps to keep small screws and parts from bouncing or rolling off the table.
