So I'm minding my own business kinda poking around the net looking for a new knife for the coming year's outdoor activities (hunting, camping, hiking etc) and I find my self reading threads on good old bladeforums.

Next thing I know I'm the proud owner FBM and trying to figure out what to get next. Is it insidious or is it just innate INFI goodness calling out to me? Im trying not to think about it but I still have the occasional lucid spell.

Anyway could use a little help.

Looking for sheath recommendations for the FBM. I saw the vendors on the Busse site but I am wondering what people are actually using. If you are stuck in the wilds of "pick a wild place" for an indefinite period what would you want to have with you?

Anyone who uses a Busse for field dressing game what do you use? Was thinking about a Badger TAC but I'm thinking it's a little big.

Thanks

Armoralleather

ive got 1 right now, 2 being shipped & 2 more ordered.

they are a pleasure to deal with

the quality is top notch & then some

I have my FBM in a $20 Dogfather sheath from the Scrapyard. It works great. I was going to get a Semper but they were backlogged for 12 weeks. They might be caught up now. I would upgrade, but now I've realized that I don't mind abusing a $20 sheath as much as I would a $80 one. That's just me though. I'm kinda tough on my gear.

A Badger would be a great all around blade for field dressing and camp work. It would piggy-back your FBM nicely also with a custom sheath.

You can't go wrong with a Okuden kydex sheath, they are tuff enough by themselves to fend off Zombies!!! you don't have to worry about them getting wet either.

I have two on order with Armoralleather right now. Also, Progunner on this board makes some nice items too. I have one on order with him for an HH...

got an order in with armoralleather for a FSH and i just got my kydex sheath from Okuden last week and its top quality.

Honestly, all the makers have some kick products.

You won't go wrong with any of them as long as you let them know your expectations for usage.

I'll second thatMguy -- all of the above are great at what they do. Just go with what you prefer (kydex or leather, pockets or slim carry...)

As far as field dressing game, Busse makes a Pork Belly Skinner. It's a dedicated skinner and should be awesome, but i've never actually used one. The old school ABA (Anorexic Badger Attack) would be excellent, but very expensive and hard to come by.

I have used a Game Warden and it worked nicely. Some don't like that small of a blade to skin with, but I was pleasantly surprised at how it performed.

The Actived Duty could also handle any skinning chore.

I'm also excited about the new Tankbuster that will be coming soon (you can do a search for pics.) IF it comes in 3/16 thickness, it could be a great skinner.

Good Luck! And welcome to the club.

YES, it's insidious, you must immediately unload that FBM, and never return to this forum or you are DOOMED, doomed I tell ya!

I ordered a Badger. Black on Black. Figured if it doesn't work out at least I have an excuse to get something different.

I also ordered a Dogfather sheath. It should suffice until I decide what else to do. I like the piggyback idea.

The hard sheaths like Kydex, anyone find them to be a bit noisy for stalking? I have never had one but I'd imagine anything solid hitting the sheath would make a significant clicking sound.

Thanks for the suggestions.

That's one of the few drawbacks. It's not that dramatic, but every once and a while something will hit it and you exit stealth mode. It's not so bad with smaller blades that the shirt can cover. I personally like the drop leg style for long ones like the FBM myself. They never feel right to me highriding.

Kydex does scuff the blade coatings, but I guess so does abusing it, which is what they're for.:D

Good call on getting a Badger. Stay ahead of the 2ndary market mark-ups and just order whatever the Co. is offering.

For field dressing whitetail deer, the Active Duty is about perfect. The Meaner and Leaner Meaner would work well, also. The reason I would prefer these over the GW is their slightly longer handle length.

This is assuming that the skinner is nearby in the truck. If I had to carry one knife for all rendering chores, it would be the Anorexic Badger. It is a great compromise, not the optimum field dresser or skinner, but a great all-rounder. It is shorter than the BA-TAC.

I would also be content with the Rat Trap for these chores.
What we really need is a special run of Rat Traps with Orange G10 scales.
