This is a very nice, 'tight', well made knife, and except for blade loss on Spear master and Sheepsfoot blades, is in very good condition.
This pattern is not often seen. 4 blade 'Gentleman' Pen knives, come in a variety of patterns, including Sleeveboard, but usually have 4 thin blades, making them more of a dress or Sunday knife (when Sunday was a Church and non-working day). This one has 2 'heavier' blades at the large end, more like a Sleeveboard (Jumbo) Cattle knife, and a thinner Pen blade and Manicure blade at the narrow end, like a Gent's knife. These 2 have 1/2 stops. note the thicker center partial liner at the narrow end. Scales are Ebony.

I'm posting because i really like this knife and hope others might be interested too.
I'd also like to see other SCC or S-W knives of this pattern.
cheers, roland

I had my eye on that one, but the season kept me busy, and I flubbed it! I'm glad one of the good guys got it!! Nice knife Roland! One of us almost paid more for it:D:D!
I think I have a sleeveboard, but with fewer blades! I'll dig it out for comparison.

Thanks Charlie. i was hoping to might show an example or 2, and perhaps give a more knowlegeable assessment/history of this, what i think to be, rather rare pattern.

Here's that sleeveboard, Roland. At 3 3/8" long, it appears to be a later version of the same handle pattern, with a pen knife configuration of blades.
Shields sometimes remind me of hairstyles. You can sometimes date a picture of people by the hairstyles in it. A picture of me from the 1950s might show me in a flat-top brush cut!!
Ebony was the predominant handle material, IMO in the pre- and post- WWI era, and Bar shields like yours were a style, from the 19th and early 20th century, and indeed earlier. I can't get closer than that. Not enough information.
I think yours is WWI era (are those steel pins?), whereas mine looks close to WWII. Hopefully others will comment.
Your main blade might be more full than you think. This pattern requires a taper on the blades to fit into the handle. I think the blade shapes, compared on the two knives, tell the story.

Our good friend Mark sent me a picture, and a catalog cut of his nice Sleeveboard whittler, in Peachseed bone. It's the same handle pattern, and an interesting comparison to the other two, having features of both!!

Those are NICE ! thank you Charlie. i'll watch for more of this size SCC or S-W Sleeveboard on ebay but they rarely show up there.
pins on mine are brass as are liners (has a cut-out center liner). i envision it as one of the more expensive of the Schrade Cut. Co. line-up in it's day.
would be very nice to see more examples of this Sleeveboard posted here !
