My .02 on the last several years of Queen/S&M production knives:

If you can't handle the knife personally before you buy, make sure you have the right of return upon inspection*.
In my experience with this brand you are as likely as not to find an issue that would stop you from buying if you were able to examine before you bought.

*Unless you like gaps (all kinds), thick dull edges "sharpened" like a chisel, and various other lesser offenses that is.

Skylar....

Help us out with a little more information on this one...as Stu has mentioned F&F is questionable on the last 4 plus years ...could you be referring to the new File & Wire Big Jack?

If you're talking about the smaller swell end harness jack that S&M made several years ago, they're very nice knives. I have one in ebony and it is exquisitely made. The only problem is that the pull is so hard that I've literally snapped my thumbnail more than once trying to open it. So I never carry or use it, even though it's a great pattern, and beautiful.

If you are talking about the new File & Wire Big Jack I recently purchased one of those, wanted to try out the ATS-34 blade steel. Fit and finish on the one I received are very good, no gaps, no blade wobble, blades centered. Pulls are good, not to heavy not to light (about a 6-7). The knife came with a terrible edge though (as has been usual with recent queen knives) that will require a lot of work to correct (I haven't attempted to sharpen mine yet).
The knife is a beast too, nearly 5ozs and its a tad over 4" closed and quite thick at 5/8". Its quite a bit bigger than what I normally carry, not sure I can get used to carrying such a large heavy lump so I may not keep it.

Just a thought, but an alternative from the same company is the Queen Cutlery Teardrop Jack in Amber Carved Stag Bone. Two blades in D2 with those really nice bone handles, it's based on the Teardrop single blade liner lock - a very nice knife indeed about 3.75" closed.

Will, I believe the Queen teardrop jack is the #69 pattern, and is actually a hair under 3.5", a little smaller than the #06 linerlock pattern which is 3-7/8". There have been a few S&M teardrops on the larger #06 pattern, both single and two blade models.

I have a few S&M #69 pattern teardrop jacks, 3 1/2" long
They are older and the quality is the excellent old quality that S&M used to put out

I think I have one of those, the top knife in this image. It is very nicely made, fit & finish is more or less perfect. But the springs are killers. Sorry for the terrible picture.

Jeff and Neeman, thank you for the corrections.

These are very decent knives without a doubt.

I must be crazy or lucky  I have bought a bunch (at least thirty) of Queens, Moore makers, Schatts, Northwoods, Robesons and other related knives over the past six or seven years

The only problem I have had was a not very good backlock on a Mountain Man

Sure the blades sometimes come thickish. But, first, I like putting the edge on a knife .. makes it mine. Second D2, even ATS 34 are no match for a diamond stone. It takes minutes to put on the edge you want

Looking forward to what the new owners make of the product line, nevertheless ... especially that 6th series of the S&M file and wires. I bought myself a few of them heavy jacks for rescaling purposes. Best production trad folder I have seen for a long time :)

Will, if you look at moonwilson's picture above, the top knife is the #69 pattern, and the bottom QCCC knife is the #06 pattern, both longer and more "teardroppy."

Thanks Jeff, I've got two of those QCCC Teardrops myself: Green Bone and an interesting reddish Winterbottom. The former is user, the latter stay at home. I'd like to get more as they have a nice feel to them, take a decent edge (some quality issues on the user though) but they're not easy to source.

I believe they did a Teardrop in one of the keystone series, an early one in the 90s? Fine looking EZ-Open Teardrop in a wormgroove.

Regards, Will
