I've had this knife for a few years now. It is dated 2006 and marked as 1 of 600. It looks like it belongs to Series XVI and could be identical to the Serpentine Moose #041155. BUT it is very clearly marked 042155.

If anyone can throw some light on this gorgeous piece I would be grateful. :)

dkonopinski, could possibly be mis-marked? I googled that number for shatt and morgan and didn't come up with a match???

I've emailed Queen this morning to see what they think and I'll post the response here when it arrives. If it is a mis-mark then what does that do to the value of the knife? I suppose if it is the only one on the planet then it's unique, but if they mis-marked hundreds of 'em I bought a pup.

I'm not really bothered as it's such a lovely, high quality knife, but I do like to try and sort out mysteries.

I've a GEC Tidioute trapper which is mis-marked.

Maybe I should start a mis-marked slipjoint sub-collection. Actually that's a very bad idea. Forget it.

Since the knife has two names a Serpentine Moose and Half Whittler, it makes sense it has two #s.
Right?

Actually the box shows the # to be 042155
And the Brochure shows 041155

My box is labeled: S & M XVI 041155 on the end but the large traditional label on the lid shows "MOD. NO. 042155-2006" & "3 1/2" STOCK HALF WHITTLER". The lid label also shows "XVI":)

I have one I carry, great little knives. the 420HC gets as Sharpe as any thing I have. I can't see the problem people have with 420HC, it's a fine every day pocket knife... YMMV.....

Perhaps this is a knife for people with multiple personalities?

If so, will I have to buy two?

From the horses mouth -

Dear Mr. Konopinski:

The number marked on you knife is the correct number 042155. The Schatt & Morgan 2006 Series Flyer was marked wrong.

Thank you,

There ya go! The paperwork lied, but the knife told the truth.

David,

Then this also solves the two name mystery of Serpentine Moose and Half Whittler
The flyer was the lier.

Yep. It's a Half Whittler. I think a Moose is one clip blade and one spey of the same length.

Trust the knife.

I have 2 moose/meese knives. They have a clip and a spear blade. Love that pattern. You cannot go wrong with Schatt. I am not an expert, so possilbly meeses come in optional blade choices?

Thanks for the update, I had to look mine up and see what the pattern # was.....

I really like this little knife, has really strong springs and F&F is great.....

I know what you guys mean. I'm getting addicted to S & M. I've a Series XVIII Wharcliffe Whittler on it's way to me tomorrow, if our wonderful Parcelforce service keeps its promise, but don't hold your breath. I've also got a Muskrat in Old Winterbottom bone which I guess must be an SFO and a Series 3 File & Wire English Jack.:)

If only they were cheaper to bring into the UK.

Cheers all.

This knife is understated.
It has a very thin profile.
The main turkish clip sit very low
And even the coping blade has a reverse grind on the back of the blade so it sits low
So the whole knife in not bigger than the frame.

Stop it Neeman!:grumpy: I was not planning on buying a knife right now. :o Your advocacy is leading me into a purchase like a labrador retriever on a tennis ball that is dipped in gravy.:D
