Has anyone had experience with Schatt & Morgan's 420 stainless? I am wondering if it holds a decent edge and keeps it.

I have a Schatt & Morgan Winterbottom Barlow with 420 blade. I reground the blade to 15°/side (30° inclusive). It is not one of my heavy use knives, but gets carried at least once a week and has held its edge without being sharpened for over a year. My S&M English jack with ATS-34 gets more use and I like that blade steel more than the 420. I have the English jack ground at 20°/side...

The Schatt 420 knives are largely meant to be good looking with above-average fit and finish. Their 420 is fine considering the use intended for the knives.

Schatt uses ATS-34 in their knives that are more seriously designed to be used, such as the large trappers, the Mountain Man pattern, etc.
They are part of Schatt's "File & Wire Tested" series (although a few of the F&W series are not, in fact, labeled ATS-34).

Thanks much for the info, guys! As it turns out, ATS-34 (154CM) is one of my favorite steels, so the 'File & Wire' series are looking mighty fine to me.

Thanks for the help and the links, Rifon, you saved me a ton of searching.
