I received the S&M Sway Belly Trapper in caramel bone yesterday. Once I opened the box and examined my new knife I realized all the positive reviews given here are accurate. The fit and finish on the Schatt is excellent. The blades are razor sharp out of the box and I couldn’t find anything to complain about.

I thought it would be easy to pick a superior knife between this one and the amber bone Canal St. Gunstock I’ve had since December, but reexamining the CS knife made me realize there’s no clear-cut winner. They’re both very nice and IMO it will come down to personal preference.

The S&M in this pattern is a larger / heavier knife, it does look and feel like it's handmade. I can see why a few of you only collect S&M's.

I’ve included a few pictures for comparison.

Those are great looking knives JPD1998. I really like your last photo with the forest in the bacground.

Very nice. I guess you lucked out, because last week I picked up a S&M wharncliff whittler in golden root. While I am quite pleased with the fit, finish, and color, the sharpness really left something to be desired. By no means would I grace it with the description "razor sharp", though it did take a very sharp edge after some work.

You're right , it's not razor sharp, the CS knife shaved hair out of the box, I mixed them up.

ParaGlock, smiling-knife - Thanks for the kind words.

Hello JPD

Those are wonderful looking knives, great side by side comparison, thanks..I favor the Schatt's but I have not had the enjoyment of a Canal Street yet...

Great pictures...

Thanks - the Schatt is a fantastic looking knife. The problem now is which one to buy next... I really like the S&M Harness Jacks

I'm eyeing those Canal Street Gunstocks myself, I like that they use a spearpoint mainblade!

I just scored a Queen Amber Carved Stag Bone large Stockman in D2 and WOW, WOW, WOW, this is a fine piece! Highly recommended. After a little time on the belt sander (20 micron, 9 micron, charged leather belt) and then some light stropping by hand, this bad boy is ready to GO! :D

Yes I have one of those too ( the model 49). The fit and finish is a little better on the CS but I do like the Queen's D2 blades. The Amber Bone is very similar and if you put both knives next to each other you'll notice other similarities, like the thickness of the liners.

But yes the Queen Stockman is also a winner.
