I just hit the buy button on an Schatt & Morgan Cotton Sampler. It's the ATS 34 blade File and Wire Tested in Moss Green WG Bone. This is my first Schatt & Morgan knife. What should I expect as for as fit and finish. I have one other ATS34 blade on Buck/Tops collab and it takes and holds a keen edge. Anybody else have this knife? What are your impressions of the knife overall?

I don't have that knife. I have purchased two of the Grandady barlows.

My first was extremely dissapointing. Blade play on both blades, and gaps big enough to watch TV through!

Not to fear, though, I ended up fixing the loose blades and excessive gaps with a padded vice squeeze, repeening the pins and sanding then polishing the bolsters back.

After that, I liked the knife enough to purchase another for my father (he was very taken with mine). The one I ordered for my dad came with no gaps to speak of, and no blade play.

I would suspect better fit and finish will be the norm on yours. It is several years newer, if I remember correctly, and with a single blade, you should be OK.

They are hit or miss from reports, but it is still one of my favorite! I think a stronger pull would make it even more so.

I like the steel. The bone is nice. I have been looking at the large warncliff swayback.

You will not be disappointed

The steel is excellent takes and holds a razor edge
The F&F is also excellent
A very sturdy work knife
I use it for bumming in the woods as my folding knife

A very oversized Sheepsfoot so it works as a pull cutting knife
The way the blade is shaped means you cannot push
So all the cutting is pulling the blade to you
Also the blade is wide enough to act as a draw knife

My pet preference is:
I like when the blade is centered to the handle, so often I file back the tang
And to get the blade to sit deeper in the handle I file the kick
I cannot remember if I did that for this knife, but I did for the smaller Cotton Sampler in Orange bone and the F&W warnie

I really like the looks of these; they remind me of a Punta Corta from Spain or Italy. If I didn't have so many others on my "want list," I would have picked one up already. The ATS-34 that Queen used for the F&W series is awesome.

Thanks forthe additional information. I will post photos when she arrives.
