Most of you know by now that I really like the GEC brand knives. I also like the quality of the S&M knives, and have a few to show you. Some of these have been posted already, but heaven knows, we all like to look at pretty knives! Please feel free to add any and all Schatt & Morgan knife pictures to this thread--nice to see them all together!

BRING ON THOSE PICS!! ;) :p

I love giveaways! I'M IN ON THIS ONE!:D

Just kidding. :p Schatt sure can do that worm groove. I particularly like the teardrop jack and the cattle knife.

Good one, Luc. You had me lookin' back at my own thread! What, no pictures of your own?

I really like the blade on this S&M lockback and the fact that it's ATS-34 should make it to be a pretty good user.

This is my Schatt & Morgan Swayback (their description) File & Wire Tested Wharncliffe with Morning Ash, Worm Groove, Bone, scales. The blade is ATS 34 and is 3¼" long while the overall closed length of the knife is 4¼" closed.

This is a replacement knife for the original knife whose fit and finish was terrible and whose scales were void of any finish what-so-ever and chipped to boot.

The knife pictured has decent fit and finish and the scales are nicely colored. Overall it's a nice knife.

I don't know why Schatt & Morgan calls this knife a swayback but call it a swayback they do. I believe the knife in the top left corner of "black mamba's" first pictured group of knives is a true swayback. Just goes to show how pattern descriptions even in the same manufacture's line of products can vary from knife to knife

I love the swedges on those lockbacks.
I agree on the Cattle knife and the Teardrop. Those were the ones that grabbed my eyes.

My only problems with S&M is that they sometimes have too much bladeplay and they're nowhere near as sharp as a knife at that price point should be.

I have never had a S&M with loose or dull blades.
Greg

None of mine have been loose or dull either, and the ATS-34 bladed ones come very sharp.

Great photos, as always, Greg-- the 2000 lockback is one of my favorites, also.

How do the saber grind blades perform compared to the normal flat grind? I'm considering a particular knife but I can only find the combination I want in a saber grind blade.

I've bought 3 S&M knives in the past few years, 2 of which have issues. The first is an older green bone canoe marked Queen Steel 96, so far its been ok. Holds a good edge, decent spring, solid blades with no play.
Next is a Premier series small English jack. Never could get it to hold a decent edge, and the backspring seems for show only. Other than that its a nice looking knife anyhow.
The last is a teardrop harness jack in red bone. Again, the backspring for the main blade is real weak, edge holding is so-so. The big problem is the punch. The punch has always been more than a bit hard to open from day one. Now, the knife had been sitting in the chest for maybe six months when I took it out when going through the knives in the same drawer. The main blade was ok, nothing different. However, the punch opened way to easy. No resistance at all. The spring was cracked, broken right off. I don't think I ever opened it more than a dozen times since I bought it new.
I guess you could say not a big fan here.

Well...it looks as though I have been hiding under a rock...as I dont have one of these absolutely awesome knives...
Jeff..I am blown away by those knives...my eyes were all over the place...but they keep going to the big "coke bottle" ( is that correct? ) on the bottom right-not because of the handle shape-that nice big blade an' all...it just looks to be a well proportioned big folder - I like it!!..and THEN everyone throws theirs in as well!!...ok...the plan is to get over the next couple of weeks budgeting...and Im going shopping!! :D

Thanks for the kind words, Duncan.

Here's a closer-up look at the easy open teardrop jack from 1999.

Ooo, I really like that Keystone Lockback. Not b/c of the lockback but the shape is beautiful.
