I got a beautiful Schatt & Morgan 2000 English Jack in ATS-34 for my 30th birthday this week. It's an incredible knife but being the perfectionist that I am, I couldn't help but notice:
1) The blades are curved or warped. The main blade nearly hits one of the liners despite being perfectly aligned near the pivot.
2) The second blade's pivot is just slightly misaligned such that when it's open there is a very slight but noticeable gap between the liners and tang on diagonally opposed corners of the tang.
3) The top of the blades show rough grinding marks and are 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch shorter than they need to be (and are therefore not flush with the backspring when open).
4) One end of the nickel silver shield is unpolished and several of the brass pins show grind marks.
Despite all that it's a big, beautiful and rock solid knife. The enthusiast in me just can't get past this fit-and-finish issues...
Did I get a lemon or is this in line with most Schatt & Morgan English Jacks?
Thanks,
Jon
