I was looking at getting a couple Queen Amber bone knives, but I have found a couple S&M's that I really like. I know that they are made by Queen, but am wondering how the quality compares to Queen ?
I haven't heard any complaints on either (other than the edge on the D2 Queens), but wanted to find out if there was something I had missed...

The only S&M I have is exceptional. Here it is next to a Queen. Great fit, finish, and snap.

I like them both about equally, but I prefer the file and wire Schatts over reg. Schatts.

I wasn't too impressed with the one sample of Queen's amber bone I had, other queens I've had were ok but the Schatt and Morgan I have is exceptional. It has the best walk and talk of my whole collection.

If got a series XIII horticulturist's knife. I bought it because I loved the way it looks. It came a little dull and has some blade play in the main blade. I got it sharpened no problem and I mainly use it to open letters and stuff so the blade play doesn't bother me.

S&M is significantly better quality to a regular Queen
Now Queen is already very good indeed, so S&M is an excellent production knife.

Queen does come in D2 and S&M in 420
But the SS holds an edge better than the Case SS

I would have been dissappointed if I bought a new from a dealer knife as a Schatt, and it had blade play. I do not want to hijack this thread, but would have sent it back, for a fixin or a new one without play. I like those horticultural knives too.

I would not hesitate to send it back & tighten up that blade play!
S&M is the top of the line in Queen knives and I get real picky. After all you're paying for top of the line.

Love 'em both, but out of the box, the S&M File and Wire series with the ATS-34 blades are way sharper and a little nicer than the Queen D2s. They both have some interesting patterns.

i'll have to give it to the schratts for racy looks. the queen in d2 [if you can sharpen] will cut circles arond the steel in s&m.if you are into art more than performance, get the s&m. however if you want a cutting race horse go with queen d2.

My S&M's are all very nice. They are definitely a step up from the regular Queens I have. Most of my Queens came with mediocre edges and all needed resharpening but the S&M's all came out the box nearly perfect.
The Fire & Wire series are really exceptional.....
I am sure you will not be disappointed......(1st post of 2010):)

Man you picked a great Schatt there Guyon!!
I do believe that is the stock knife from the 9th Annual Reproduction Series set, with ATS-34 steel on the master blade.

I too am a genuine fan of Queen and S&M. On occasion, I carry a S&M gunstock with ATS-34 steel, I believe it is from the same series as Guyon's stockman shown above. Guyon, I love that particular stockman. I've been on the lookout for one of those for some time.

Neeman, Is that a serpentine jack with stag scales, turkish clip blade? Really nice. Whats the length closed and blade steel?

I wish they made more patterns available in the File & Wire series, because ATS-34 is one of my favorite steels.
I was wondering how the 420 is? The knives look great, I'm just a little surprised they didn't use a different steel. IIRC didn't they make some versions with 1095 ?
Feel free to post some more pics. It doesn't seem like pics of S&M's get posted very often
