Hey guys how does Schatt & Morgan's ATS-34 compare to Queen's D2 in edge retention and ease of sharpening? Thanks

The ATS34 blade will take a keener edge (finer carbides),The D2 will hold its edge longer.

I have two of the S & M series IX ATS 34 knives, the gunstock and stockman. The steel on both of these knives sharpens considerably easier than the D2. Both the D2 and ATS 34 are excellent cutters. Both steels are part of my EDC along with 1095 carbon.

The attached photo shows the S&M stockman in ATS 34 (left), and the Queen made Moore Maker stockman 5301 with 1095 carbon steel (right).

It can also depend on edge thickness. Some of my F&W "biggies" have had thick edges, and combined with the tough ATS-34 steel, they were just as hard to sharpen as the D2. My research came up with both steels at about 61 HRc. Stan is right about the keen edge of the ATS-34; when done right, they are beautiful.

Yes
And ATS34 is easier to put on a few licks on the diamonds and they are back to very sharp
I find D2 does not get to that fine edge and is more work to get it back to it's sharpest

Thanks guys i have a queen with D2 and i can't get that really keen edge on it like i can on 1095. Will their ats34 hold an edge longer than 1095 carbon?
