I am only in the shop part time during the school year as I teach Graphic Design courses at a local community college.

Completed my last Final Exam yesterday - wahoo!

Now I'm in the shop full time until the end of August.

Sorry if it has seemed kinda slow around here....stuff has been going on "behind the scenes" with little time for me to post updates. That'll change starting today.

Thanks for your patience, guys!

Full steam ahead...

Dan

Sure thing - more regular updates now.

This last semester was particularly tough because we had so many snow-days it threw our schedules off. And then the Accreditation Board comes back and says "Even though you have 2 weeks less of school, you have to cover the same material in order for this class to count toward graduation"....Nice. Stressed out students - that's a given. Stressed out teachers too...?!?

It gets better - on top of that I had the courses I normally teach all get new textbooks over the Christmas break...had to scramble to rebuild my course material, learn Blackboard (online teaching) and then adjust afterwards for the snow days, etc. Probably the most time-consuming semester I've had in years. Crazy stuff.

I'll try to get pics of progress - but probably only finished knives for now. Thanks for sticking with me guys!

Dan

I'll admit, I was nervous. Glad to hear it wasn't something serious like a health problem, though!

I can't imagine what your PM inbox looks like... but did you happen to see mine about changing the sheath for my M.U.C.K. order?

Skrapmetal - checking now....

Andster2 - thanks!

I hope that you and yours are safe after the tornado last night. I'm betting that it didn't miss you by much.
Take care sir.

Smashed Joplin - about 60 miles north of me. I know people up there...everyone is ok so far. But the place was leveled and the pics we've seen.....well, they are really very very sad.

We're trying to put stuff together to send up to them via my Scouts, etc.

We were bunkered down for sure...thankfully nothing materialized in our area.

2nd time in the last week. :thumbdn:

Dan

The company I'm leased to is based 20 miles from you. I was talking to someone there and he said Siloam Springs got hit. That would be too close for comfort for me.
Take care.

crazy stuff.....too many tornado warnings so far this year. Fortunately all of them have been late evening/night for us (before 11pm) and no middle-of-the-night stuff.

Prayers and condolences to all those affected by them.

Dan

Dan,

Glad to hear they are missing you, do you have a shelter to dive in?

Unfortunately, no. We just head for a specific closet. I keep saying I'll build one out back, but never get around to it. :(

This year might be the year...!!

Did you guys see the big storm headed our way tonight?!?

Looks like I'll catch just the southern tip of it...

Dan

Looks like a big steel box anchor bolted to a concrete pad might be a quick shelter fix. Or a pit with a steel lid anchored to a concrete box??
The long winters and cold weather up here is a lot more tolerable after seeing what you have to deal with.
I hope it will let up for everyone sake.
See you at Blade.

Hey guys.. Michael Volclae here... I live in joplin.. it is truely the worst thing I have ever whitnessed both before during and after.. I ve never seen anything like this on TV or the movies.. my family and I are all ok... a few houses less now.. but we still have our lives and eachother...

we need your thoughts and prayers here badly... the death toll keeps rising everyday and by looking at everything during out search and rescure missions... the 120 number will undoubtedly rise.. Ive lived here my entire life.. born and raised.... been thru a number of tornados here.. never seen such destruction.... I cant begin to describe the feeling we all are experienceing here right now.... its just so surreal... we Joplin-ites are always saying "its Joplin, Nothing ever happens here"... those words dont taste so good going down....

the face of Joplin is changed forever!!!

Thanks guys for any thoughts and prayers!!!

Michael - I'll be in Joplin on Saturday to help with the clean-up...I have a large group of Scouts I'm taking up there to help out. We were supposed to be doing their Eagle Scout Projects this weekend....but there's so much need...and being no too far away..we had to find a way to help.

Dan

We came out unscathed. Looks like Oklahoma was the hardest hit. We weren't expecting tornadoes...but were prepared for 70mph winds...which thankfully never came.

Can you imagine what would happen if a tornado hit my shop?!?
