I only recently got my first CF knife, a ZT 0450CF and I love it! I love the lightweightness, the look, and the color.

It got me thinking more about the knife art exclusive CF models. I'd like to hear people's thoughts on these CF models in general and any recommendation on whether they are worth the buy. To me, CRK folders have always meant grey bead blasted titanium so it goes against that original aesthetic to me but not necessarily bad! Please tell me your thoughts in general and help answer a few specific questions I've been wondering.

1- Does CF make a better or worse carry piece than standard titanium? Is it more of a safe queen like a mammoth bark inlay or a pure user?

2- How bad is the centering issue that I hear discussed? I've read that CRK doesn't guarantee centering and states over time the knife will develop asymmetries and it's not a matter of if but when it happens because of the nature of the material. This honestly is the main thing that's kept me away so far.

3- I've read on the forums that CRK will replace a titanium handle slab for $100 to $200 so you can buy a CF sebenza, and mail it in and for the right price, they'll install and fit a titanium slab. On the surface this seems like a cool idea so you could swap handles and sort of have two different knives but I imagine it also requires new washers to be fitted, and you'd probably have to maintain two sets of washers, one for each handle, since it's my understanding that's what they grind a few microns off to make it fit correctly. Also, I'm wondering if this is even a good idea or if you're better off putting that money towards a second full titanium knife, if you so wanted a titanium version and a CF version.

4- Does the CF get scuffed up over time and can CRK refinish it?

5- Overall is it gimmicky and/or just kind of a fun knife to have to collect, or does it excel in actual usage performance, perhaps due to the slightly reduced weight?

6- If you were just going to get one CF model, how do you choose size/blade style? Do you get something that you're lacking, such as if you don't own an insingo, you get an insingo CF model, or do you get something that duplicates your primary EDC so you match the size/blade shape you prefer.

I can offer no help as my Lrg and Small are both plain Ti, but I thought I should mention that you are not alone - I have had those exact questions about the CF Sebenza.

I look forward to reading some thoughts.

If you think you may want the option of having both the titanium scale and a carbon fiber, another option is to buy the plain Jane titanium sebenza then buy a custom carbon fiber scale. I got one from cuscadi that is really nice and only cost $75 shipped from Germany.

Fit and finish is great, blade centering is spot on, and it was way cheaper than buying the titanium scale from CRK.

Don't get me wrong, I've had a few of the stock carbon fiber sebenzas in the past and I liked them but I always found myself wanting the option of having the full titanium experience as well.

The Knife Art CF Sebenza is a pure user, now the Blade HQ inlays might lean toward a safe queen.

If you're anal about blade centering, don't get it. Some folks get their panties in a wad over a CRK being a hair off center. I've got two 25's with CF slabs and so far they're both centered. One is an after market, the other from CRK. It's a hit or miss on getting one perfectly centered. Please don't get the impression that if it does get off center, it will rub or you'll have issues with it. They work just fine being a little off centered.

Yes, you can send it in and get a Ti slab for it. Since it's the presentation side, you may not need to send it in. My 25 was all Ti and had the after market slab made, so I've got the option to change out the slabs. I've got just one set of washers for mine and haven't seen any difference between the fit and working of the two slabs.

Can't comment much on it getting scuffed up, I carry in a pocket sheath and I haven't had that issue yet. But I'm sure like any other material, it will get scuffed up. It just takes longer. My only fear is if you drop it on concrete, it can leave a chip/piece missing. Don't know if that repairable.

I like carbon fiber, I don't find that it performs any better/worse than a full Ti CRK. It does feel different when you go from a full Ti to a CF Sebenza. For me, it feels a little lop sided for a while. After a day's carry, the balance is natural.

I'm partial to the larges and I like the 25's, so it was easy for me to choose. I guess I duplicated my EDC since I've got several 25's and the CF came after having full Ti 25's.

I own an aftermarket G10 scale I had Mr.H make and love the weight. Aftermarket may be the way to go if you have a good candidate for the scale.
I also have an after market CF, but have never gotten around to putting it on a knife . My only Plain 21 is the one with the G10, so I guess I need to buy another 21
also have a linerless CF scale on my Kwerk(Fellhoelter) and it has never had any problems

To answer some of your questions...

I think CF is very durable and makes a great user. The only issue is that it could be prone to chipping if you drop it just right... But titanium will get dinged up too if you drop it just right... I do think that a plain Jane titanium scale will show wear way more than the CF just due to the nature of snail trails. The difference would be that the spa treatment can make it look like new again and I don't think CRK refinishes the CF.

In my opinion, the weight savings is really nice and it makes a big difference for everyday carry if you are looking for something that just disappears in the pocket.

Sorry for the ramble but hopefully some of it helps!

CRK's carbon fiber is the best I've ever handled. So smooth, so well done. If you like ZT's CF, you'll love CRK's.

Both of my CF models were centered, for what it's worth. Though I have heard people say there's an issue, I haven't seen it personally.

I have a KA Large 21 Insingo..

In the months pondering and deciding whether to actually buy a Sebenza it was really the only on that appealed to me and it very much still is. The weight drop and the fact that it doesn't show wear as readily as the Ti are just side benefits. After four months of daily carry it's nicely broken in, centered, and at about 50% lock up. It's a nice knife that I don't think I'd trade away for anything else.

While I think the market asked for it, CRK would not produce it if it didn't work as a cutting tool.
I asked a maker about CF as a handle material and got this as a respond "What would you do?".
hope this helps
PS: I found a light beater, cause I couldn't bring myself to use it.

If you buy a large KnifeArt CF you would be amazed to have such a big knife inside your pocket, which you will hardly notice because of its weight. I used to edc this KnifeArt Insingo:

21, Insingo Carbon Fiber Exclusive, 01

21, Insingo Carbon Fiber Exclusive, 03

This knife was great and no issues with a slightly off-centered blade. A good friend talked it out of my hands and it is serving him well. I bought myself another large Insingo, but this time a micarta inlay one. Not because I prefer it over the full cf. Just because after having used the KnifeArt I wanted something different. That's all.

This one is for my knife display and not used:

21, Carbon Fiber, Basket Weave, 05

21, Carbon Fiber, Basket Weave, 08

21, Carbon Fiber, Basket Weave, 07a

This one has the above mentioned slightly off-centered blade. It is noticable if you look careful. But far away from being a big deal.

Althoug considering myself being a hugh CRK fan my opinion about the cf they are using is "it is okay" .... Could be nicer. I have seen more attractive cf scales arround.
