So I am interested in a midtech folder. I have read about midtechs and what they are, however have no clue where to start choosing which one is for me. Is there a page or thread that gives an overview of the marketplace?

Thanks.

What is your definition of mid tech? Some people consider crk, strider, microtech, hinderer to be mid techs when they are really just high end productions.

Mid tech knives are knives where helpers or machine shops do a lot of the menial work and the custom maker still pits in a good bit of hand work. Jake hoback, brad southard, Matt cuchiarra (sp?), Michael Vagnino, Tom Ferry and many more all have mid tech lines.

The latter would be my definition as I already own CRK, strider, and microtech knives.

Beyond CRK, Hinderer, and Striders, most midtechs are very elusive beasts as the original maker tends to not make them for very long. I think the VECP runs from Les George are over, Michael Burch finished his second run recently, Matt Cucchiara is not putting out a lot of El Dorado's lately, and god knows when Brad Southard's Avo becomes available they will disappear instantly.

Jake Hoback has mentioned though that if the Kwaiback Midtech proves popular, he is going to continue doing runs of it and possibly some of his other knives.

Being a sucker for non-standard locking mechanisms, do any of those makers make folders that aren't liner or frame lock? Something similar to a BM axis, or even CRK blade spine locking thing.

Might look at Brian Tighe knives. They're more on the custom end of the spectrum, but the Klecker lock is quite unique. I love my mini Tighe-Rod.
