To be honest guys I am not all that educated in steel. Mot of my blades are INFI, A2, S30V, S90V, very little M4 and very little in CPM 154.
What is the story behind Fiddleback Forge's 01 steel. I've been told Andy does a good heat treatment on the o1 but what are the pro's and con's of this steel?

From my experience, O1 is a carbon steel that is easy to sharpen, holds a good edge & has great toughness. It does rust easier than the steel you mentioned, but is a great all around knife steel.

JT is right. Think of it as a slightly less rust-resistant version of A2 and you'll be in the ballpark. A solid workhorse of the carbons... takes a little care, but is durable as all get out.

How about lateral strength? I do not use my knives as pry bars(unless it's one of my Busse's) but I want to make sure it's not going to snap if it gets lodge in a piece of wood and I have to apply some lateral pressure to get it loose.

60-61............................

That was a cool little article. Thanks Andy. It is crazy to see all the work you have to do to make a knife & helps to explain the costs involved in production.

I like where he lays out how much 01 costs. Several times more than 1095! Several times!

O-1 is by far the strongest and greatest super-steel every made. I hear that it's actually made by smelting unicorn horns and vampire fangs. INFI is crap compared to O-1. That's right. I said it.

You mean INFI is what O1 craps out. Right?

Damn, I hurt myself laffin' at that one. :D I was gonna comeback with something better, but I couldn't. Oh well.

Metallurgy of O-1 Tool Steel goes back decades for quality cutting implements, not just knives. Oil quenched, carbon steel. And yes, vampire unicorns were hurt during the making of this steel. Moose

I think what he was saying, is that INFI would have to stand on D2's shoulder's, just to kiss O-1 on the ass. Just sayin'. Moose

HAHAHA! Awesome.

O-1 is like lightsabers. The only thing that O-1 can't cut through is O-1.

O-1 is the Chuck Norris of steel, ROFLMAO, I can't take much more of this. :D
Moose

O-1 sharpens very easily, similar to INFI in my experience. It also takes the nicest looking patina of any Carbon steel I've personally played with.

Chuck Norris is so tough that INFI uses Chuck to baton wood using his tongue.

O1 is what Chuck Norris's teeth are made of. From what I hear, Chuck Norris uses INFI to line his shoes like a Dr. Sholls extreme shock foot pad. Just what I heard. Moose

Dr's make a special batch of Viagra for Chuck Norris from 01.

O1 is an amazing steel. It has done some things I find hard to believe a knife steel could do.
