My latest acquisition is a Schrade 123OT red. It's a beauty, and I'm digging around looking for references on this knife. Lots of yellows, not much of anything I can find on this as a red model. Anyone?

Bought on ebay for $46 a month ago. No OLD TIMER shield...what's the deal? Did someone replace the handle?

I happened across one as well on E-Bay last year, shopping in the early hours and got it with "buy now" really cheap, don't know much about the red handle style either, or why it has the OT designation. I'm sure someone will be along with an answer, I will post a pic tommorow of my 123OT "red"

Chris,
I just got a regular 123OT this week. Sweet aren't they? :D
I can't tell from your picture, but is the center pin brass on yours. It looks like yours may be silver, but I can't quite tell in your pic. Also your top pic looks like there is something different about the bolster and it appears that the red handle material sticks out beyond the bolster. Is this just the foibles of the picture or are they really that way? If the bolster is different from the one on the other side & if the handle does stick out, I would say that it may have been re-handled.

If you can get a close up shot of the front side bolster and the edge where the handle meets the bolster it might help.

Even if it is re-handled it is still a nice knife. If it is not, then you have something unusual. As is often said in this forum, "anything is possible with Schrade."

Here is the one I got Monday, if you want to compare them. Maybe you can tell what I was getting at.

Take care,
Dale

Hate to tell you but those red knives are fakes made in Paki....er...Uzbecka...er...Guatam... uh, well ok. I've seen Schrade papers somewhere on them as an SFO for someone. I think they were for SMKW, but don't hold me to that. If/when I refind the info I'll post it in this thread. And then you can send me the knife.:D

Dale - center pin is brass. And it's the foibles of the picture, the red material doesn't stick out beyond the bolster. I don't think it's been rehandled, or if they did, they did one hell of a good job.

All in all, it's very well made, and has a great snap. Maybe it's a smokey, just don't mess with me and tell me it's a paki!

The 123's in red come up on ebay often with a college nick name (Gators) and often go for big bucks. This one may have escaped without its printing. I do believe they were a SMKW special but will check.

Chris,
The last time I see them listed is in 1988. That is for the regular 123OT. It is such a great size and shape that I wonder why they stopped making them? Though, as I recall, single blade lockbacks or liner locks were hot sellers about that time. Kershaw was selling a lot of them & Benchmade was just getting going well about then, selling a lot of liner locks & lockbacks. Perhaps that is why they decided to discontinue them.

All in all it is a great knife and fits my hand well, no matter what the color! :D Nice find Chris & Rusty.

Does anyone know when this knife first came into production?

Dale

Thanks Michael for the blindingly fast response!

Wow, only a 4 year run for such a sweet knife. It must not have sold well or they would have made it longer. That is too bad, because I really like it.

I will have to put it on my list of favorites that i am always looking for along with the 61OT, 34OT, 36OT, 89OT and the 197UH.....etc, etc, etc. :D

Thanks again,
Dale

I think these where SFO college football teams series knives made around 1994. this one is for the University of Georgia, anyone have an idea the year they where made
