Stopped at an estate sale this afternoon after visiting with my son. The sale was quite a ways out off the beaten path and sales had been slow. To my surprise and luck there was a 142ot lying on a table with a $6.00 tag on it. When I pulled it from the sheath I discovered the first 1/4 inch of the tip had been broken off. I put the knife down and checked out the remainder of the sale but soon found myself looking the knife over again. On a chance I asked if they were really going to charge me $6.00 for a broken tipped knife. They quickly replied with a counter of $2.00 and I quickly layed out the 2 bucks, took the knife and got out of there before they could change their minds. Went straight to my shop when I got home and got my grinder out, dilligently re-worked the tip and it actually turned out quite well. Got my stone out and put a good edge on it. The knife looks good! My son needs a good hunting knife so I'll be giving it to him.
