I found a Schrade 165 while I was going through my dad's belongings. I don't know alot about Schrade knives, and as I understand it, Schrade went out of business. So, I was wondering if anyone could tell me more about these knives. I'm really amazed at how well-built it is. Would it make a good field knife, or is this something I'd just want to put away and hold on to?

They are great field knives. You may use it, or put it up. Either way, it was your Dad's Old Timer and he obviously liked it or he would not have kept it. I've used one for many years and I really like the design, weight, blade stiffness, ease of sharpening etc. They aren't really rare, but ones that belonged to your father are.

I've researched the pattern and it is posted here somewhere. I'll see if I can dig it up.

Can you post a picture or scan of your knife (I never get tired of looking at these!)

Those knives that belonged to your father or grandfather are the priceless knives of anyone's collection. I feel fortunate to have knives from both of my grandfather's and several knives that my father has given me.

For Father's Day this year he is getting a rehandle job on his old Sharpfinger. The blade is lightly pitted, but he didn't want me to take them out, he just wanted a new handle. I am almost finished & will post a pic when it is done.

Razorback,
You have a priceless treasure in your dad's knife. Every time you hold it or use it you will remember him.
