Schrade 1870T Old Timer question

I recently bought the knife referenced in the title at a local antique shop. The guy I was buying it from told me it was made in the US, and for some reason I figured he must not be lying to me to make a quick buck. About a week after I purchased it, I saw it at a sporting goods store for about nearly one third of the price I bought it at (mine was $62, this one and all the others with it were each 20 something dollars) and realized I may have been fooled.
I know that Schrade used to manufacture their knives in the US before they sold out to China, and I'm kind of worried that this may have been produced post-sellout. Is there any way of verifying whether or not I've been ripped off?

Look for the USA tang stamp.

Take picture and post in teh Schrade collectors sub-forum.

If it was a USA made Schrade it is stamped USA on the tang. If it doesn't have the USA on the tang then it is a Chinese made Schrade clone.
Schrade did not sell out to the Chinese. They went out of business and their name was bought by someone else (I believe possibly Taylor Brands) and they started making the clones in China. Looks like you may have been shafted. I would go back to the place of business you bought it and ask for a refund if you have one of the Chinese clones and were misled. If you paid with a credit card then you can easily get your money back.

Are the blades stainless or carbon ? If they're carbon steel it's US produced. The Chinese ones are only available in stainless Steel.
Does the tang stamp say schrade NY USA on it ( or any variation of that ) if so then it was made here.

As far as I know, the 187OT is a recent design made in China. I don't think there was a U.S. Schrade-made Old Timer pattern like the 187OT.

I didn't actually realize what the knife was, but now I do.
Yeah the 187OT is a China only knife and you got ripped off ( or the guy didn't know that schrade got china'd out by Taylor brands ) if I were you I'd go to the guy and get your money back , I'd think that he'd be required by law to give you your money back on the grounds of misrepresentation.

If the store is reasonably close, I'd take it back. It would appear based on the comments that it is a Taylor Chinese made Schrade. It must say "USA" on the tang stamp for it to be made in the US prior to selling their trademark to Taylor Brands.

If the seller specifically said, "...made in the USA..." in reference to the 187OT you bought, then definitely take it back for a refund. There are quite a few useful old U.S. Schrade fixed blades: 151UH "Pro Hunter", 1650OT "Woodsman", 15OT "Deerslayer", 52OT "Sharpfinger" (a smaller skinner), 153UH "Golden Spike", and a bunch of others.

If you keep it, chalk it up to a learning experience and beat the heck out of the knife. Looks like it'll make a good beater, but I wouldn't expect it to hold an edge at all. (A local Big 5 here sells a lot of the Taylor-Schrade traditional and modern folders. Customers love the price, but hate the fact that Taylors typically won't keep an edge for long at all.)
