My dad uses a worn out schrade 225 to skin and dress deer with and I would like to get him a replacement for it because the blades are loose and springs are lazy. Should I get a new old Schrade or a Buck or a Case or just go ahead and get a new GEC 23?

My vote would be for the Case folding hunter. I've had one for 40 years, and it's been a great knife. About half the price of the GEC, too.

Maybe you can pick up a US Schrade 225 with less wear, either on the exchange or from one of our dealers, and give him that as a replacement, he obviously likes the pattern?

I love my #23, and carry it every single day. That being said, if he's used to a knife with lazy springs the 23 might be a bit of a shock for him and he might end up leaving it home. I'd think your best bet would be to go with a Buck or a Case. Case if you want fancier handles, Buck if you want utilitarian.

Sorry I couldn't get on BF for some reason so it's taken awhile to reply. Nice one scattershot! Yea jack I will probably do that. I personally would like the Buck or the #23 but it's not gonna be mine and I think the pull on the 23 is probably too strong. Thanks for yall's input.

I think the site has been down

I vote for the 23 but it does have a good strong spring. If you think your dad would like a good stiff pull them the 23 definitely won't let you down.
