Schrade 233 ?

I'd be curious to know myself. I'll bet if they were under the impression they were in for the whole roll, they'll be kicking themselves soon enough.

Chuck

Russell, it is one of "Trachs" personal collection, which means it is one of many that Silverladdie obtained years ago and continues to milk the story. Also it comes with a Silverladdie seal of approval, and it came from a "knife roll". All of that adds to the value of a common jack knife.

I have Schrade Walden stamped version in a genuine plastic tube, though not splendid, since it was not hand selected by "Trach", did not come out of a knife roll, come with a Silverbuzzie document, or tan official Parker box for safekeeping, I'll let mine go for $99.99 and I'll pay the shipping. ;)

I was surprised someone with 1,300+ Ebay purchases would pay that much for a Delrin handled Schrade 233. He really wanted it, and the 2nd place bidder with 5 Ebay transactions was going to make sure he paid a lot for it.

The carnival continues, or "there's a sucker born every minute"!
The sale, at that price, confirms the statement above, and assures us that Hucksterism will flourish forever.
I'm waiting for an auction to state "You can't get to Heaven without one!" It has certainly been implied!!
Imagine how many knives THAT will sell at ridiculous prices!!
It's not the fault of the hucksters. The phenomenon sits squarely on the shoulders of the "suckers"!

I don't know if any of you looked at the bidding history, and maybe I'm looking at it incorrectly, but it sure looks to me like the guy with 5 was bumping along the bid trying to feel out a higher price. Shill bidder maybe? Either way I suppose it worked because he sure made the other guy pay throught the nose for that one.

I wonder how many men it would take to roll that "roll" up a ramp and into a truck?

I bought a 34OT from that "knife roll" for about $34. Just wanted to see what it was like. sure enough, just as nice as my other minty Schrade U.S.A. 34OTs.
ever wonder if this "knife roll" ever gets depleted ?

.....refer the photos of the "1978" knife roll. Have those fixed blades remained in those sheaths for the past 32 years? How many collectors who respect their collection would do that? Have a look at the 15OT reversed in its sheath....that little package cant be mint....weren't the 15OT sheaths in 1978 dark brown?...my mint ones are.....I suspect that not all those knives are 1978 productions however I dont have any paperwork in front of me to verify....folders are upside down and 'higgeldy piggeldy' in that roll and you can almost hear the sounds of steel meeting when those great fixed blade clunkers are rolled with the folders....what years were the birds heads butts on the 171UH?..,is that one in the roll a 1978 model?......as my old Army pappy used to say "time spent in reconnaissance is rarely waisted"......Q: did Irv do the Schrade yearly stocktakes as well as he seemed to have taken a heck of a lot of stock?...Hoo Roo

IIRC, 1978 was the first year for both the 13OT and 14OT. I see both of those there. The 171UH with the birdshead pommel was only made during the first couple of years of it's production, that would have been c.1971-72, not later. The 171UH in the roll has the later pommel.

We've been seing the Trach knives sold for quite a few years now though, so one has to wonder. Parker is first and foremost a salesman. He learned from one of the best.

Did the knife roll come with the Schrade sale or was it purchased before hand, anyone know, just curious!! Knives could be appearing from that role for years to come.

Russell

According to Parker, he bought the Trachtenburg collection direct from Irv. I don't recall when it was, but some time after the factory sale, IIRC.

I have seen a lot, and I mean a lot of "Trach" knives with mismatched blades, for example, Old Timer blades on an Open Stock knife, and vise versa. And seriously, whoever writes the Ebay scripts, and I doubt it is Parker, either plays dumb and writes it up like it is a Old Timer 708, or just hopes it does not matter. No way did the Sales Manager put frankenknives in his personal collection. I think he keeps finding end more Schrades, including end of days examples, and sticks them in that endless knife roll and keeps taking pictures. I could be wrong, but he has an audience of buyers, and I see new collectors going to that well often. Hell I did too.

Wasn't there another seller who also advertised knives from that collection? For some reason I thought I used to see listings from someone else advertising out of that roll. Could be my imagination. I've bought one or two from him myself. After some of the things I've read here, I try to stay away more often than not.

After some of the things I've written here, I've been banned from bidding on that site for a few years.

At least I still have my first 44OT from there, with a nostalgic botched etch, and a withered Sharp Idea box. It is a mainstay in my collection. :D

Hi Suckers!

I'm Dingus Furguson and I am offering this fine Schrade knife for auction from Thawk's Esteemed Collection. Pay Pal gladly accepted. BC, PA, NY, TN, and KS residents pay 29.25% state sales tax. Winning bidder pays $4.95 USPS 1st Class Mail Shipping with Delivery Confirmation included in the shipping price.

Let me tell you folks, this is one of the knives we acquired out of the collection of Thawk, current Crack Collector of Schrade Cutlery from early 1870's until 2004. This massive collection is starting to pepper spot and we will be offering some of the absolute finest pieces of Schrade Cutlery known to man, and have an endless supply of knives that did not meet spec, or pass inspection.

The master Clip blade is stamped with Schrade U.S.A. 44 OT and features the old style Schrade sawcut derlin scales, the Old Timer stamped Bar Shield, and a Knife Club etch. It was the personal knife of Omar Joe Willard, past president of the Knife Club, and he did wipe the blades off with his own spit.

The blades have a few inadvertent splotches on them around the etch, but of course this knife has never been used or carried in any way. All 4 blades snap like an old cooter. The box has been opened and closed at least 400 times, and the cardboard tabs are hanging by a thread. If you've always wanted an authentic United States manufactured Schrade knife with an etch that bled all over the clip and spey blade, then this is THE knife for you.

This excellent quality original USA manufactured 1991 issue Schrade Old Timer 44 OT 4 Blade Stock Knife from the Thawk Collection is being offered at No Reserve. We will provide the winning bidder with a kick in the shorts, and throw in a gen-u-wine Thawk COA.

Thanks for your bids boys, we appreciate it.
