As I mentioned yesterday, I wanted to take a few better pictures of the Schrade 2331 jack knife I got from Paul. 1986 is the year my wife and I were married, so this is a reminder of how remarkably fortunate I am to have lived these years with such a lovely woman. Now, to the pictures.

I really like the different hues of the dyed bone handles. While I like the dark shade of the mark side, I am drawn more to the pile side for its color variation.

At 5.8125" with the clip blade open it is a practical, useable size knife, while still being comfortable in the pocket (3.375" closed).

The trade mark on the clip blade may be off center a bit, but I like it for its historical representation.

As noted in the pictures above and below, this one has the nail nicks on the same side, which I prefer.

The tang stamp is also clear and distinct.

Beautiful Jack, Doug! I love the way that the etch has a serpentine flow to it...
Thanks for the great pics:thumbup:

That's a fine looking knife Doug. The memories and feelings an inanimate object can invoke are pretty powerful.

I gave one of those, from 1983, to my oldest son when he was in his teens (1983 is his year of birth). I haven't seen it in awhile. I hope he still has it.

Thanks for the kind words folks.

Here are a few quick comparison pictures to my 1978 Case 6232 jack (sorry for the morning sun's glare).

The Case is slightly longer closed (3.5625" v. 3.375" for the Schrade).

With a slightly longer clip blade (2.5" v. 2.125" for the Schrade), the Case is also longer with the main blade open (6.125" v. 5.8125" for the Schrade).

The pen blade of the Case is certainly a more stout blade, which is one of the reasons the 6232 is just about my favorite jack knife of any I have ever owned.

The Case is ever so slightly thinner than the Schrade (0.5" v. 0.5625").

(by the way, there are no gaps in the Schrade, the shadow of the liner on the spring gives that optical illusion)

Doug, you will find the handles are bone, not wood.

Of course you are right Russel.

Here is the sad part. When I read your post I thought to myself, "Where did he get the idea I thought the handles are wood, not bone?"

Then I went back and read my first post, and there it was, in my own typing "dyed wood handles." Holy cow, I really am getting old!

Thanks for setting me straight.

Well, it's actually the funny part, too. Does that help? ;)

Beautiful knife, Doug. Thanks for your pictures and write-up, and especially for the pictures with the Case Jack.

An absolute wonderful knife, Doug.

I really like the wood handles. At the first view I thought it was dyed smooth bone. Even the tangstamp is a beauty...

Congratz on that great knife. :)

Beautiful knife, I have an 83 Heritage Trapper that gets scary sharp. The steel on the Heritage series is amazing.

It happens to us all Doug, not to worry!! Post number 11 has now got me confused. LOL.

I was using my Blackberry Playbook to read the forum just now, and noticed something I had not seen before in one of the pictures of this Schrade jack.

The Playbook has much better screen resolution than does my laptop, so the pictures are much sharper. While scrolling back over today's entries in the totin' thread I noticed the reflection of my wedding band on the blade in this picture (I wear it on my right hand for a couple reasons).

I find this interesting because I bought this 1986 Schrade Heritage knife to commemorate the year my wife and I were married.

That Doug is just so neat and appropriate:thumbup: "Meant to be" is a term we use around here;)

Take Care,

Paul

heh, how did i not say anything to this yet
i know i saw it ...i thought it was awfully pretty

just thought i should tell you that :D
its awfully pretty :)

Thank you Ryan. I think so too!

Paul, this picture adds to the special nature of this knife (sentimental old fart, I am). Thanks again for turning it loose my way.

Hey there Doug, that '86 looks like a beauty!!!! what a lovely knife, 1-dealing with Paul is just fantastic-I think he is a real Good Guy, 2 - that knife sits side by side with your Case so perfectly.
ummm hey guys...do you remember Doug saying he couldn't get a good photo?
