This thread I recently posted gives some clampack date information. That research is still very preliminary, but look for copyright dates on the back of the cards, also on the paper inserts. Since most of the clampacks were for the chain stores, there are quite a few different cards used for different promotions.

tthman,
That clampack in the ebay ad (you posted) looks like the Taylor Chinese version, even though it says "#1 Selling Pocket Knife in USA." I have seen these in stores and it sure looks like the chitaylor version to me. If you compare it to the clampacks in Codger's thread you will also see that it doesn't match any of the ones he posted.

Unless it is a clampack that I have never seen before, (which is possible) then it is a chitaylor and not a USA made knife. The color looks like the Chinese ones I have seen in stores. You may want to ask for a better pic or query the seller to be sure it says really is a USA made knife. I would also get the sellers guarantee that it is a USA made knife, if not be sure he will refund the money and shipping both ways. :D

To answer your question as to when it was made, I would date it as 2005-2006, made in China. :barf:

I couldn't find any examples of the Chinese clampacks, but if you compare the color scheme of the clampack in that ad to the color of the box in this ad: http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-CHINA-SCHRA...hZ012QQcategoryZ88910QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem you will see they seem to be the same colors. This link is to a seller who clearly delineates between the USA made & the China made Schrades in his store. I have bought from this seller & he doesn't try to pass of the Chinese junk as made in the USA.

I hope this is helpful,
Dale

I really can't say for sure. None of the stores here carry the Taylor knives, so I've not seen a Taylor clampack. The card design does look "Taylorish" to me, but the picture is too blurry to read the card details. Seller states several times that it is a USA Schrade. Even so.....Maybe you can pay with paypal so that if you are defrauded by his description, you can get the funds back entirely regardless of his policies.

He has another knife on right now (250013258249) where the box is hidden behind the knife and sheath in both pictures. Again, not clear enough to determine if it is USA from either the box or tang, though he repeatedly says it is an American made knife from Ellenville. The blade does not look to be hollow ground in those poor pictures, which it would be if it were a 2003-2004 Ellenville knife. The picture is just blurred enough that the shield, the most obvious "tell" with these knives, cannot be seen distinctly either.

On both knives, I have my doubts as to their origins, and see nothing that proves conclusively one way or the other. Maybe someone here sees something I don't. Ask the seller and save the message if you intend to buy. Seller has a lot of good feedback and does include this message:You can bid with confidence knowing that *** **** **** stands behind each sale. Even if you just do not like the item you receive just send it back and we will refund your purchase price. If the item is not as described we will even pay the postage to return it!

hi, thanks for the opinions ,when i first saw it i thought taylor bu read the description says usa than noticed right top corner looks like one of thei little flags on all my clampacks. words below look like made in usa but not sure.i dont know if ill bid but the funny thing is ive sold probably 15 or so of these usually got 13 to 17 bucks, and this ones headed to 30 already, go figure buyers, i give up.thanks again.

Well, I stand corrected, at least from what the seller says. I have bought from him before and didn't have a problem. I sent him an email and this was his reply:

"Thanks for coming back to another of my auctions. Good to hear from you. This knife is a made in USA. The back of the package states Product Made In USA Card Printed In China. There is no mention of Taylor Cutlery at all. I got this knife new in the package some time ago. I was going through some old stock and found it with one more. I bought these well before the close down of Schrade in Ellenville, New York. You can rest assured that this is a made in USA Schrade. Thanks for checking it out. I have been known to err. Just not this time. Best Wishes, Ed"

So if Ed is right, I have no reason to think he isn't other than the look of the CP that I didn't recognize, (possibly bad color in the photo), then I am wrong. My apologies to all.
