I was told to ask you guys about this knife, but I said, "No, I'll do the research first and then ask only if I get stuck." Well, that didn't take long, so here goes.
I bought it on . . . never mind. It is a Schrade+ U.S.A. 470T Ducks Unlimited and the serial number on the blade release is "PRESS". It came with the nylon belt pouch with the DU logo head on the front. I was lead to believe it is circa 1995, but couldn't confirm that from the Ducks Unlimited archives. Yes, I'm a member and have a thing about DU knives. There's not a mark on it except for on the left side of the tang from opening and closing it. Never been sharpened and obviously never used. I cleaned off the dried oil residue on the tang and re-lubricated it. Pictures would be nice, I know, but I've got to learn to use Microsoft Photo Editor first, so please don't hold your breath. What is the significance of "Schrade+" and can it be dated? What does the Schrade community think about this knife's quality, etc? It fits my hand (no $20 bills required) and is well balances so I would like to use it unless there is significant collector value. The only thing I don't like about it, from a user's perspective, is that the last 1 1/4" of the blade is serrated. What do ya'll think?

I'll answer the easy question: "Schrade+" denotes stainless.
As for the rest, the experts will get it.

Determining the exact year of issue on Ducks Unlimited knives can be tricky. Partly because DU, both U.S. and Canada, ordered so darn many different patterns with different custom details for quite a few years. Some were ordered by the National headquarters, some by regional headquarters, some by individual chapters and some just for special fundraiser events. Naturally, most do not show up in the COSRUS site archives, except the knives like the Federal Duck Stamp knives and a very few DU limited editions, almost no event enhancement sets. I'll see what I can find on the 47OTDU in the records, but it may take a while.

Here is an uncommon DU issue I found during the Schrade inventory sale, made for DU Canada with a laser piercing, fileback spine and UH style handle. I don't have a camera, so this is a scan:

Bridgeman, easy for you. Thank you. Somebody posted when they started SS - I'll bet it was the evil Dr. Codger - I'll go read some.

Schrade started making stainless steel blades by at least as long ago as the 1920's. Meanwhile, here is another DU. It took me awhile to find it but finally I remembered it is in a box of knives I'd like to sell. It has the white DU box and paperwork. My scanner doesn't understand that this blade is as bright as a mirror and the sheath is pure black.
