hi, new to the forums but enjoy very much my question i can purchase about 10 new 47ot in their package that comes with a little 12ot one blade are they worth buying to hang on to or not ive got quite a few of the other models but in my area everything is gone from the stores probably from me buying them all but these knives ive described are still sitting there and i just dont know whether to spend the money on them or not what do yo other schrade people think?

OK, here's my opinion:

Those two models are quite common, were sold at hugely-discounted prices, and haven't increased in value. Check eBay prices for comparison with the sale price you've been offered.

Personally, I don't collect the rubber-handled OldTimers and I already have the 12OT. So I wouldn't bite.

Schrade OldTimers are perfectly fine knives, and by all means buy one if you're interested. After all, Schrade is never going to make new ones. Just make sure you don't pay too much.

Best Wishes,
Bob

I don't see a huge jump in value in the short term. They would make nice Christmas gifts to friends and relations, if you can get the bunch for a good price.

I suppose it wouldn't hurt anything to put a few back for down the road a decade or so, who knows, they could fetch a nice price on ebay in 2016.

I doubt you would ever use up ten of those sets, but they might make good trading material if you can get them at a really good price. Both are decent knives. I have not used my 47OT, just bought it a while back to complete a display set of the Safe-T-Grip series, so I can't tell you how well they hold up in use. It is a fistfull though. And I did not/would not buy one at the original retail list of $35.00. I cannot say they were not worth that price, but I am more of an old Codger traditionalist with my knives, and prefer more traditional designs, shapes, and materials.

What else can I say??

Hi tthman,
Welcome to the forum.
I agree with OTguy. They make good Christmas presents. I have one to complete the set, but am not likely to use it. There is a store near to where I live that has a bunch of the 43OT, Pocket Beast, on close-out at $9.99 and they are still setting there. (To me the 43OT is a much more usable size than the 47OT.) Even at that price they don't seem to move. So as regards the collector value of the 47OT.....I would see it as a long term investment......10-20 years before you would realize any significant gain. Your grand-kids might make some money on them though.
I think a 100th Anniversary piece or two would appreciate in value much faster than the 47's will..........but I could be totally off base......that is what makes collecting so challenging & so much fun.

Enjoy :D

thanks for the opinions mine is since i bought a ton of old timers at low low closeout prices im waiting for this company to mark these schrades like the rest example i bought 30 to 40 897 uncle henrys for 13.00 well they have these 47ots at 29.99 and they wont close them out yet why? another example i was buying LB7lockbacks for 13.00 found 8 of them but the 47s are still full price and yet their schrades like the others so i think ill wait a little longer and see what they do

I did some quick study at a knife supply outlet used by many ebayers. Found the 'Beast' selling for $9.00. That's a 47OT made by Schrade, in the USA. Interestingly... the same outfit is also selling China made 47OT Beasts at $13.50.

Noted something else that kinda explains where all those cheap, made in USA basic Old Timers and Uncle Henrys on eBay are coming from: Factory 'reconditioned' knives, sold as 'not new'. This place is also selling those Imperial 'Hoofpick' knives you may have seen (also on eBay) but of course the sellers manage to put 'Schrade' in front of the Imperial.
