I am not sure if this is the the right place for this, but thought I would start here.

I just got a 5OT (lockback) that has a proud backspring in the open position. Is there any fix for this? The knife works ok, but the protrusion is noticeable. The spring is flush in the closed position.

Thanks for any help.

The fix is to have a cutler adjust the kick. Yes, it can be fixed if it bothers you. I just checked mine and the backspring is flush both opened and closed.

Have you tried cleaning it? hot soapy water.Never know might just be full of old gunk.

If the kick was the problem, I don't think the spring would sit flush in the closed position. It sounds to me like the fit is not right where the lock bar meets the "lock bar groove" on the tang of the blade. Is there anything in that gap that might be keeping the lock bar from fully engaging?

It's hard to diagnose this without seeing it in person.

Grit and cleaning is the first thing I think of when a lock back locks up with the spring proud. Dish soap and hot running water while opening and closing followed by Wd-40 flush and then lube of choice.
