I have been toying around with these as of late. The first had a broken seconday blade and the main blade was wore down quite a bit. I did a little reshaping on both, thinned the edges back down to normal, and the handles were well worn, so I sped up the wearing process with a bit of 150 grit sandpaper, and buffed the handles down to see what they were going to look like. I liked it so much I decided against rehandling it. I didn't get too fancy with the polishing of the blades because it's gonna be a user, and if fur prices jump up like they are saying, it will be getting a workout this winter.

This one didn't have any snap and the blades were rusted up on it when I bought it. Lots of oil and sandpaper, some light buffing got the blades looking the way they are now. Then I origionally had plans to make it a single blade like my yellow handled lunchbox knife, but once I got the second backspring operating properly, I decided "2 blades are batter than one" So I left it alone, and handled it in a small piece of ebony I had. This one will be more for show, looks like i'm going to have to make some changes to my display case, I've got few new recruits coming in :D.

Kid's definitely got some talent.

I really like what you did with that second one.

I'm working a small rehab myself right now, although I don't think it will turn our nearly as nice as yours. The blades on mine were ground so badly by someone, I could never get them entirely smooth, it would sand the blades down to nothing. I will do the best that I can, and post a pic when I get it finished.

Keep up the good work, MM.

Thanks Glenn, The knife's past is what determines it's future, depending on how badly it was mistreated will determine how "new" the knife will look when finished. A few of my knives still have pits, grinding marks ect in them, but have new handles ect, shows the kife's past and present, I think so anyway. Like the hawbaker above, the blades have been reprofiled to look better, and the edges have been worked down to a sharp edge once again, but the peppering still shows near the spine, and the "cuts" in the derlin are wore out but polished smooth by both me and my sandpaper and the man who once carried this knife, and the mainblade has obviously been sharpened alot, keeps a bit of history with the knife, me thinks. Or maybe I have just been breathing too much sawdust. Keep us posted.
