This has probably been asked before but I searched through the forums and couldn't find the information
I recently picked up this really clean Schrade Walden NY USA 808. Looks to have been never used, carried, or sharpened. Maybe spent it's life in a drawer or is recent new old stock someone found.
I know the stamp is 1946-1973
I don't think the scales are delrin so that could put it before 1963. I suspect they are bone but want to be sure. The jigging is not in the common peach seed pattern seen on delrin. If I catch it in the right light, there is just a hint of red translucency.
The shield is blank and the liners are jimped which could be a clue to its age.
The blades look stainless but I don't believe they are
Any idea on age or what material the scales are? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The covers are not Delrin or celluloid. The knife is pre-1962, and probably about 1956-1959. The covers could be dark bone, but because of the shrinkage (or poor fitting) they are more likely Fosterene, a material used briefly in the 1950s.

Thanks. I just had a good look at it again.
I don't see any evidence of the scales shrinking. The ends are tight to the bolsters and the sides line up almost perfect with the liners.
Maybe I don't know what to look for. Could you point out what you're seeing. Maybe the photos are deceiving. Thanks

The thing that made me think it wasn't bone is it looks like the covers have that melted look around the pins. This is more common on synthetic materials.

Very nice knife though!
