Don't ask me why but I've had this knife by Schrade-Walden a few years now and I absolutely love it!Clenching and hoping not to be forum stoned to death here but even more so than my love for the 8OT by Old Timer. This knife is basically built the same as a standard 880 model.1095 Carbon Steel blades, four brass liners, jigged scales. Not sure if the scales are bone or delrin (don't want to table tap the scales and learn the hard way it's bone).Long-grooved matchstick nail-nick on the clip-point.That sweet swedging going down two-thirds of the blade spine like Schrade USA used to do.But I absolutely love the Kon-Kav grind on both sides of the clip-point as the 880 was commonly flat ground.Looking at the grind it fondly reminds me of a Camillus #72 I once had only this is nicer. Is there anyone out there that has a crush on this 4" stockman as well?Looking back at the demise of Schrade USA I sure wish they did the Kon-Kav grind on some 8OT's.

As far as I know, the 880 was ALWAYS KonKav ground; I see the pattern first appearing in the 1953 catalog and was clearly so at that point. The 881, however, was a similar but flat-ground knife. I might be able to find a pic to show, courtesy of Hal B.

Yes!That's the one!:distracted:Although nice to see very clean and minty mine has a nice patina I put on it.Looking at the scales on mine I believe they're delrin.By the way thanks for the picture of a bone-scaled one that really helps.I guess because the Kon-Kav wasn't a regular thing by Schrade it's appreciated in smaller circles versus the flat ground blades though there's nothing wrong with those.Hands down though that's got to be the sweetest stockman Schrade USA ever cranked out.

Frotier76, I'm a big fan of the 4" Schrade and Schrade made Buck 301s.
This is two of my 880s ... Ken.

Nice 880's Ken!Very curious about that Stiletto arrow etching on the clip-point.Recently I acquired one of the 880 Kon-Kav Stockman's bearing the SCHRADE N.Y. USA tang stamp which is actually rarer than the Walden era (the 880 was discontinued in 1975 I think). The Schrade USA version also had the Schrade logo on the shield which strangely the Walden era didn't.This second 880 Kon-Kav I acquired had a dark patina on the clip-point,very little patina on the backsprings,damage-free scales. The blade was a tad dull but full factory edge.Obviously spent it's life in someone's attic or junk drawer predicting 6 months of ownership as their user knife.Their loss my gain as a back-up. No offense intended directly to anyone but I'm very surprised to see the 880 Kon-Kav Stockman being collector pieces and not being used. The 8OT is a positive performer as a flat ground blade but I love the cutting experience of the Kon-Kav.It splits apples so cleanly like an axe neatly pushing the halves away.Cutting rope to pin down firewood in my truck bed I can pull the rope through the grind and in shorter strokes it cuts faster than the 8OT.Very effective grind for when you need a clip-point to count in utility use...not just good looks.

Frontier76. The 880 (Product # 350) was last produced in 1977 only 77 of them. totally gone in 78.
3617 were made in 76. It wasn't on the 76 pricelist but they were still selling them.

Yep, I do have one of the Schrade Walden 880 knives brand spankin' new in it's plastic tube. Bought it in 1975 from Tom Stanley at Mayer&Grosh cutlery in " Winesburg ", Ohio. I think it was less than five bucks. Also got an 825RB that day that is still in daily use by my favorite easy chair.
And so it goes...

WHO knows the real name of "Winesburg" and the famous Ameican General who is buried there right by US20 ?
