A fellow Schrade collector has asked me about a knife, I have in my collection (an 897UH)
This knife came in a brown boxed "Gift Set" with a "167UH Steelhead Fillet Knife".
All the information I have, is this photo, and a "Schrade N.Y. U.S.A Stainless 897UH" tang stamp.
Dale Vincent lists the 897UH as made from 1973 to 2004.

I have the same 897UH with the same tang stamp in a small brown box.

While looking for the 897UH, I found an 895UH and a smaller knife, an 855UH.
All of these knives look much the same, at first glance. Ken.

My 1991 Schrade Display Unit has the same 897UH with a "Schrade tang stamp".
My 2004 Schrade Display Unit also has the same 897UH in the front and came with six more for stock, in the back.
The 2004 knives were shipped from Schrade, in January 2004 and all stamped "Schrade+ USA 897"
All the above knives came with all the Bling and Paper-work.

Ken, I've not heard of the 895UH. There is an 895 (Open Stock carbon steel) with jigged handles and the same blades as an 897UH, but it's not an Uncle Henry. Is it possible an 895 blade ended up on an Uncle Henry knife? Similarly, I've not seen an 855UH either. Dale does not list an 895UH or an 855UH over on AAPK.

Additionally, there are Schrade Walden NY USA 897UH knives made from 1967 to 1972, and they have milled liners and most often razor finished blades. Your picture above looks like it is a Schrade Walden stamp.

Some of us have heard that there is a distressing recent phenomenon in Australia of residents there fermenting vegemite and inebriating thereby.

Thank You Hal, I do not know much about some of my early Schrades.
Some of them have been put away for many years.

I have not tried the Vegemite, as I have not found anything better then "Wild Turkey 101" in the past 10 years. Ken.

Those early 897s with milled liners are really nice little knives. They were a star in the UH lineup very early on and remained so for the duration.
