I already have a mint 90th Anniversary set and the walnut lined display box with glass top makes for a magnificent display of any knife...
Ebay Item 261064854606, I just purchased for US$57 <Au$54>..this Commemorative Schrade Trapper with beautiful Sambar stag handles and 24Kt Gold etch and unique Tang stamping and gold plaque, I believe originally had RRP of over $500 when released in 1994. Even at an original discout price I feel someone has taken a real hit on this, I certainly would have paid more but there was little bidding.
I have a number of Schrade made display boxes which are invariably made to a very high standard, to display my Australian WW11 Military knives.
At this price I can display a very rare WW11 Military clasp and still cover my costs with selling the beautiful knife with the bling....Display boxes such as this in Oz are very dear to purchase, so why dont Schrade collectors buy these items to display their own gems at these very low sale prices?..and then sell the knife if it does not fit in with your collection...Q: do potential buyers only look at the knife's desirability?..Hoo Roo

That's dirt-cheap. Even the most common Old Timers often sell for more.

I think the big factor is that more people collect the 'ordinary' knives, knives like their dads and grand-dads carried, as opposed to special-edition or "commemorative" knives. I'm always baffled when something interesting like an Old Timer Classic or Silver Anniversary Old Timer sells less than the going rate for a plain 8OT.

Display cases don't interest me much, unless they match a knife I have. It'd kill me to break up a knife and display case like that and sell it separately. So I'm glad it went to a collector who can appreciate the knife and case together.

Congrats on the purchase.

wow, just i didn't see it and being the semi novice i am, am usually leery of good deals like that. since you usually "get what you pay for". way to go on that one. quite lovely.

I'd say it slipped under the radar, although I don't collect the SFO editions or knives that were released as a "collectible knife".

Nice snag Larry! I was watching it as well but couldn't afford to grab it so no snipe from me. Always nice when someone who appreciates the score gets it. Enjoy!
